Are we NOT discussing the Dolby Atmos Mix of Achtung Baby?

Loving it overall so far. Still trying to figure out how I feel about the new mixes for 'Until' and 'Ultraviolet'.

New Album Discussion 1 - Songs of..... - Unreasonable guitar album

I’m loving everything about the song and video, except for Bono emulating Abraham Lincoln in Disney’s Hall of Presidents.

New Album Discussion 10 - Songs of Sir, this is a Wendy's, durr

Hate to say it, but that's the vibe I'm getting too.

New Album Discussion 10 - Songs of Sir, this is a Wendy's, durr

There are some nice moments on this album. I stand by my previous comments about some of Bono's vocal takes (I'm not one of the ones saying his voice is shot, just saying some of these vocal takes could have been better, which is a complement to Bono). Grasping the album concept more clearly...

Agree with your take re: the music. But, here we go with the lyrics. "Nothing's as simple as when you...blink?". Say what? What does that even mean?

If U2 were trying to connect with Irish folk genre through SOS, it would have been really cool if they had completely folk-i-fied 40 of their songs (as in...bring in some authentic local musicians and duet singers, and reimagine the songs completely in folk tradition).

New Album Discussion 10 - Songs of Sir, this is a Wendy's, durr

When he goes into the high part, he sings “Let it get away” instead of “Don’t let it get away”, which flat out defeats the meaning of the song. I truly don’t understand the appeal of this project. The Rockabye Baby! Lullabye Renditions of U2 album is better musically, and Bono’s vocals are just...

The new One was just included as background music on the Superbowl pre-game show when they presented the Walter Payton man of the year award.

New Album Discussion 9 - Larry needs new arms, ba rum pa pum pum

I think the band is being deceptive by marketing this as a proper album. If they had marketed it as a soundtrack to the audiobook and Bono's book tour, that might have been an industry first and actually kind of cool (and maybe a very limited release would justify the prices they're charging for...

So, you're thinking what? That Bono wrote the book last Spring and then published it in November? That book has probably been in development for a long time, along with the audiobook versions and these "reimagined" song versions and Bono's book tour. None of this happens overnight. And it's the...

Or they spun it like this. But if we use our own brains, it's obvious this album is a product of Bono's audiobook and book tour (weren't you the one who posted clips from the audiobook as previews of what to expect on this album?).

New Album Discussion 9 - Larry needs new arms, ba rum pa pum pum

So let's have a discussion. I think it's absolutely fair to call this project lazy. The band was recording these tracks, anyway, to produce the audio version of Bono's book. Bono decided to go on tour with his book, so he already developed at least partial "reworkings" of these songs to sing...

Fine, but the artist telling us how he wants us to perceive the art doesn't guarantee that perception will happen.

For me, these new song versions are in the neighborhood of Grace and 13. I know Grace was from 20 years ago, but 13 is a recent example of Bono giving a great vocal take at that low register. The two new tracks we've heard so far don't come close to 13 re: Bono's delivery.

This project could have been something really special if Bono had delivered better vocals, and if they had recruited someone like Brian Eno to produce the ambient feel.

Bono is too pitchy to pull off these versions. Plus, here we go with the lyrics.

To my ear, Fools Gold sounds a lot closer to Do You Feel Loved?
