I was at that show, far from their best, but certainly not their worst. Crowd only cared for pride and streets? With all due respect, you must have missed something...
The album version is rawer, more intensely emotional. The single version is more streamlined (hence a single), more accessable. I'll take the album version by a smidgen...

According to the above thread, POPMART sold 1,000,000 copies. That doesn't seem to shabby.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to whether or not the band wants to release it. For whatever reasons, U2 seems to have turned their back on that era...
