Larry and Bono: no album in 2007, Popmart and no Milan

Quit worrying about U2 and spend some time finding new music to enjoy and support. Everyone should know by now that the stars have to be aligned a certain way to get a U2 album and tour.

U2 doesn't belong in South America right now

It will be interesting to see how they are received in SA. I'm not debating that the fans want to see them and they will be hugely popular. However, Bono has obviously made a lot of publicity in U2's main "markets" (i.e. the US and Europe) by meeting with heads of state on poverty relief. In...

U2 doesn't belong in South America right now

After pictures of Bono hawking Amex and every other corporate logo under the sun at the World Economic Forum, it is shocking to see the band is playing dates in South America. Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Venezuela (host country of this year's World Social Forum, which is the World...

I want to go to Africa

I volunteered for 6 weeks in Ghana with a group called Cross Cultural Solutions, a great group you can find on the web. You have to pay too volunteer with them, but they run an excellent program and it is worth every penny. West Africa is an incredible place.

my thought on bomb....a year on...

I miss the experimental U2 of the 90s, not the generic, Disney-fied band they have become. HTDAAB is a reflection of what they are now and thus although I admit some of the songs are pretty good on it, I can't listen to this record or ATYCLB right now because they make me slightly nauseous.

Frustrated and dont know what to do....

Sounds ike you're feeling overwhelmed and maybe a little homesick which is understandable. Give it some time before passing judgement on your location. An experience like volunteering is normally going to be unpredictable and slightly chaotic for at least the initial days or weeks. Even an...

    Coldplay In the Year 2007

The fact that you're even having this innane conversation proves that both of these bands are overhyped and oversold. Listen to some independent music once in a while and support bands that actually need your support (i.e. not multi-platinum selling bands).

Bono favored to win the Nobel Peace Prize

The problem is there hasn't been that much success. A lot of effort of Bono's part (and scores of others who will remain anonymous while he gets all the accolades) still has yet to pay off. The government's he has lobbied for aid, trade and AIDS relief have put so many conditionalities and...

    Exactly what happened?

Don't know if it was already mentioned, but in between POP and ATYCLB they also did the Million Dollar Hotel (MDH) soundtrack which was a brilliant synthesis of the "arty" 90's U2 and pop sensibility, although it still retained a pure avant-garde-ism, ala Passengers. I wish they would pick up...

    Nobel Peace Prize

Trendiness is not the custom or forte of the prize committee so I doubt they would confer the prize on 2 individuals who have (in 2005) succeeded only in organizing a massive rock concert (their other list of demands to government being tied up in so much red tape and conditionalities that who...

(09-22-2005) 10 Questions for Bono -- New York Times*

"In dangerous times, post-9/11, America needs a strategic partnership with Africa. Forty percent of the population of Africa is Muslim." - Kind of upset about how this sounds. Islam itself is not the problem, but this answer certainly implies that is the problem in these" dangerous times". Not...

    Some Good News from Iraq

Nice story. It's too bad they were headed for New Orleans. Now Baher and Afaf might really think dealing with the US is a curse not a blessing.
