I agree, I definitely think they put the cart before the horse on this one. Everything sounds bigger and more epic, but the songs just aren't good enough. Square One and the early leaked version of Talk are the only two songs from this album I can see myself listening to six months from now.

What potential did you believe they showed on parachutes exactly? I think that "shiver" is a massive song, but beyond that I like Rush of Blood better.

I love coldplay, but I'm not holding my breath for them (or anyone else) to match u2 at their peak. Maybe bono and edge's kids will start a band?

I like talk better than speed of sound. Hopefully the album version of talk will be even better, but i would be surprised if they can top the one that is out there now.

I don't like it. I am anxiously awaiting their next album in....2009? Ever since about the first month after I heard it, I rarely listen to it. The melodies sound good, and the songs have some really greats parts to them, but that is outweighed by the negatives, which are harder to articulate...

Perhaps because there was a huge marketing blitz at the beginning, SNL/Ipod/Driving Around NYC. That has worn off by now.
