Pavement has a song on the 1993 No Alternative CD called "Unseen Power of the Picket Fence", which is about R.E.M., and apparently the Civil War as well... Some bands I like to name check, And one of them is REM, Classic songs with a long history Southern boys just like you and me. R - E - M...

Woops - I completely missed this thread somehow. Sorry! I'm always up for SY talk. Which album to begin with? (upon reading the thread, I see that HeadsOnSticks has already recommended Daydream Nation.) I would like to second the opinion of my esteemed colleague HeadsOnSticks and recommend...

:up: for Pavement (X2), Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine, Nirvana. I like the old list better, only because I think Loveless is better than OK Computer. :reject: And I think Slanted and Enchanted is better than both of them :reject: :reject:

The Wrens! Their masterful album "Secaucus" is almost impossible to find online, so ebay or the local record store is probably your best bet. But it's so awesome! p.s. they just came out with a new CD, "The Meadowlands", which received a godly score from that we're-so-indie-it-hurts publication...

Have you ever heard a song on the radio, and thought "hmm... that song sounds an awful lot like _____"? The best example of this that I know of is the Pixies "I Bleed" and Weezer's "Sweater Song." Not saying that Weezer was consciously ripping off the Pixies, but geez those songs sound alike...

I agree. By the way, does anyone else think that Fuel's other hit song (In My Hands or whatever it's called) sounds awfully similar to this song? Still, Shimmer is good. Oh, and how about Everlong by Foo Fighters?
