Star Wars Episode VIII: A New Thread

Thanks. That's a solid link too. Gonna see TLJ again this weekend, I think. We'll see how it settles.

Star Wars Episode VIII: A New Thread

This is a fluent summing up of one of my complaints with TLJ, especially the contrasting personal and political levels mentioned upthread:

Star Wars Episode VIII: A New Thread

I'm wholly on board with appreciating the intent of trying to tie together the galactic political scope and the personal Skywalker drama - how a sclerotic republic falls to authoritarianism in concert with Anakin curdling to the monster of the OT, and how those two threads reinforce one another...

Star Wars Episode VIII: A New Thread

Yes. I would take watching Adam Driver/Kylo Ren figure his shit out in Episode IX every time over more of Snoke's admittedly tasteful interior decoration. Just want to take this moment though to say that Ian McDiarmid is stone cold awesome through the whole series. It ain't easy being the Big Bad.

Star Wars Episode VIII: A New Thread

Exactly that - something people halfway acknowledge but don't really think through the implications of is that Star Wars is one of the most popular things in human history. So it's not surprising something casting such a wide brush brings in a lot of different people. Same for U2, really. FWIW...

Star Wars Episode VIII: A New Thread

I'm in a weird place with this movie, because I love the performances, Rian Johnson's directorial flourishes, and the big picture concepts the movie toys with. But there's something in the editing and actual mechanical situations on screen that never grabbed me. Like, both Daisy Ridley and Mark...

Summer of Love - Appreciation Thread

Had this exact same thought. I didn't realize Lady Gaga sang bg vocals on this song until reading this thread - but I was listening to it this afternoon and had idly wondered what it would've been like if Lana Del Rey had guested. Like Scorpionac said, I want to know if there was an earlier...

Star Wars: Episode VII: Revenge Of The Septuagenarian

Agreed, I had that thought in the theater. There were narrative threads and wonky spatial relationships that felt like TFA had gone through a number of rounds of cuts/edits/reshoots and ended up dropping quietly important supporting details. They're lucky that there's a large enough corona of...

Fly Like An Eagle Space Jam I Believe I Can Fly  Also according to wikipedia, two songs written by Jay-Z, and Barry White and Chris Rock cover a song by Cheech and Chong.

Star Wars: Episode VII: Revenge Of The Septuagenarian

Just finished the three prequels as preparation. The Phantom Menace is so, so weak: it's like someone decided to film a bullet point plot summary instead of the actual script. That means everything lurches forward awkwardly with heavy exposition and faint character....all leading us nowhere. In...

Star Wars: Episode VII: Revenge Of The Septuagenarian

I loved this sucker. Whatever is going on with the hilt blades doesn't seem that big to me, what's curious was the strange tendrils crackling across the body of the blade, really a different feel from the super-polished blades we're accustomed to. Also, the Game of Thrones-esque snowy wood that...

    Taylor Swift - 1989

I was going to get impressions out earlier this week, but Interference decided to shut me down every time I tried. ...So I've done a number of playthroughs, and I think 1989 as an album is disappointing. It's not really a question if Taylor can deliver some songs - she can, and Style is one of...
