U2 to perform at 2018 grammy awards

GOOYOW is up to #78 in iTunes singles, the YouTube video of their performance if currently the #13 "trending" video on this site, and the album is up to #26 on iTunes (and #34 on Amazon) after charting at #188 on Billboard last week. Definitely getting a bit of a Grammys bump.

Get Out of Your Own Way

I am not so sure about that. Right now there are 8,000 thumbs up and 3,000 thumbs down on the video. This video is clearly going to generate backlash and it’s going to draw plenty of critics on the internet from places like Breitbart. So I would not be surprised to see a large number of negative...

Goes to show you there is a lovely song in there after all!

Songs of Experience 37 - now with bonus orchestra

Album has continued to grow on me/hold steady and I'm still happy to listen all the way through with no skips. Love Is Bigger and The Showman were duds for me out of the gate, but I'm coming to grudgingly respect both with time. Love Is All We Have Left took a while to "get" but now is lovely...

    SOE ranking in U2’s catalogue

Here are my current thoughts: 1) Achung Baby (an undeniable masterpiece) 2) Joshua Tree (the one everyone knows, for good reason) 3) ATYCLB (Slane Castle performance seals it for me) 4) HTDAAB (the album that brought me to U2) 5) Songs of Experience (loving it so far and suspect the songs will...

Songs of Experience 36 - Now with 20% fewer acronyms

Seems like a pretty good first week haul in this awful climate, all things considered. But I would guess this album is really going to need a single to take off soon to hang around on the charts for long, given that there hasn’t been an overwhelming consensus from critics to create buzz (while...

    Red Flag Day Appreciation Thread

Just finished first listen... Red Flag Day is a killer song! Definitely a contender for my favorite on the album. Can’t wait to see this live!! Great combination of catchy, rocking, and a kind of bittersweet/desperate vibe. Agree with those who say it’s an update to the War style. But so...

SOE FAN + industry reviews only

The Guardian gave NLOTH a 3/5, and HTDAAB a 4/5.

SOE FAN + industry reviews only

Too bad. That AV Club review is completely unfair and misses the point of what U2 is as a band. It essentially amounts to a criticism of U2 for being too direct, earnest, and emotional (aka “giving a fuck”) when they should be writing ironic Bowie-like “space rock operas.” I wonder what the...

SOE Holdouts until 12/1- The End is Near

Haven't posted in a long time. But am still holding out for Friday so first listen will be with high quality sound. Keeping tabs on reviews, but trying not to read too much or get overhyped. Stay strong!

Songs of Innocence downloaded 26 million times, 81 million 'experienced' songs

26 million is really a stunning number in today's day and age. In other words, in one month, the downloads for Songs of Innocence basically equal the number of worldwide copies sold of ATYCLB (12 million) + HTDAAB (10 million) + NLOTH (5 million). Whoa. At this point physical numbers are...

33 million people, according to Apple and Rolling Stone.

The key here seems to be 33 million PEOPLE - we are talking about 33 million unique iTunes account holders. It's almost certainly true that "accessed" does not mean "listened to in full" but we are not talking about 1 person getting counted 11 times for listening to 11 songs. This is a monster...
