Keep hearing lots of rumours/recounts of player dissatisfaction with Sanderson, that a whole bunch of players were considering leaving the club if he had stayed, and that he was actually a very average communicator with many players (ie. there were players in the first 22 that he rarely spoke to, I know that Hinkley OTOH speaks to each of his players at least once a week) as well as blaming everyone and anyone bar himself. All which makes perfect sense.

Aforementioned Crows fan at my work was saying that Tex, Dangerfield, and Sloane were all disapproving of Sando, and that was a big part of why he was pushed - club would much rather pay out the coach than risk losing three exceptional players. Have you heard similar, Vlad?

That's similar to what I've been hearing/reading, it was more than just them I think, there were rumours going around that Sanderson let rip at the players after some bad losses towards the end of the year and managed to blame everyone but himself.

He was pretty classy in his final press conference though.

A lot of people keep on citing his W/L record to justify their outrage at his sacking which I was very surprised with, as if recent performances aren't relevant and obvious enough to all. We've had at least half a dozen losses which can be considered as being almost unforgivable.

Apart from going to down to Melbourne, which recent losses were truly "unforgivable"? For instance the loss to North Melbourne may have been heartbreaking, but you ran a very good team very close.

Carlton immediately comes to mind, especially after beating a then in form Collingwood the previous week, I'd include the Essendon match too because in the week leading to it they were being bashed from pillar to post in the media after losing to Melbourne and we decided to do nothing for the first 10 minutes. West Coast was in a similar vein, coming off a big win to get into the 8, kicked the first 4 goals then went to sleep for most of the remainder of the game against a team that on paper had a very weak midfield (and they ended up hitting up their forwards effortlessly). In some cases it's not so much that we lost but how we lost, I'd include the Sydney and Port matches early in the season as an example of that.

Still think the players could have lifted a bit and shown some more fight. Also, if he was losing the players and needed to lift his game, then why didn't the board tell him months ago? Why blindside him? Shoddy.

We were still in the hunt for the finals right up until Richmond beat Sydney, that's probably why.

The bigger question is why the fuck did they extend his contract?

The Carlton/Adelaide match was easily the sloppiest that I watched all year. Not an ounce of professionalism in 3 hours. We won because we sucked less that night.

Fact. Terrible match, it was like two people trying to outrun each other barefoot on ice.

Ask the guy we offloaded to Carlton. I reckon if he didn't have this contract extended we'd have heard many whispers prior to yesterday.

It wouldn't really make sense to make this so public when everything else in this has been kept firmly under wraps. One thing I think this did was make Melbourne panic and up the offer for Goodwin in case Goodwin was really planning to come over, Roo said today he was never really going to.

Danger very determined looking on TFS tonight, as if he wants to crash through several brick walls.

That's still bullshit. You, as a board member or whatever, are aware that Sando needs to work on his communication and relationship with the players, and you don't tell him? Disrespectful and very shoddy.

So the long of the short (I'm so confused...I've also drunk a bottle of wine)

What happens if Essendon don't appeal and cop it on the chin...What happens to the club?

No idea, but they aren't in a great position. No word on what will happen with Bomber. Hird wants to coach but I don't see how that can happen. Would be an utter disgrace if he remained coach. 34 players have show cause notices, meaning they must now, if Ess don't appeal, prove they weren't given banned substances, which will be very difficult given no one seems to know a fucking thing that was taken. Ess may well appeal but listening to the judge's verdict, it was very black and white, so I don't know what angle they could take.

Good to know that if they all get rubbed out we'd still be - juuust - able to field a full team. Probably of players playing wildly out of position too!

Maybe they'll let you have all the draft picks from #70 onwards so you can have a full list to choose from.

Cronulla Sharks players were offered backdated year-long suspensions if they admitted guilt, meaning many only missed a couple of games. That might be an option, though as a player you'd be annoyed at signing off on that if you were of the view, or had been assured, that you didn't take any banned substances.

Ugh come on North, the last half of the first quarter was just atrocious. Please don't be as shit as you usually are in the second quarter or you'll never be able to come back.

Ryder gone.

Bugger. At least we should get something good for him now that there's a bit of a bidding war developing, with clubs like Port, Brissie, and GWS all interested.

Shit on a brick. North are just getting killed by Sydney on the rebound.
