Superflu

This year's flu outbreak is frightening. The strains keep getting stronger. It reminds me of the Stand. :yikes: Is there any flu where you are? Do any of you have it? I hope not! Now it's too late to even get the shots because they ran out of the vaccine. Good luck everybody!

I'm being really careful, because I didn't get the shot. :reject: I'm getting vitamins, exercise, sleep, etc, etc. If I got the flu on top of this :censored: osteoarthritis, which I'm going to have to go to an orthopedic specialist for, grrrrrrrr, I'd be worse than useless.

Funny you should mention The Stand....first thing I thought of...

Creepy...

This is really getting blow out of proportion. This is merely the natural consequence of two or three light flu years. The anti-bodies haven't been built up so no that we face a strain of somewhat more than normal strength of course it's going to hit harder. We are no where near epidemic levels. The only people who have anything to fear are the aged, the very yong and those already in poor health. The most any adult who takes any care of themselves, has to fear is a week of feeling rotten.

I have the flu, but I'm not feeling super, thank you. :|

:D

I think tomorrow everything will look much better for me (as in being able to go to work again). Better? Work? On second thought... :)

C ya!

There is so much fear in the media about the flu. Kind of reminds me of Bowling for Columbine...

The Dutch media reported yesterday that this year's most-used new word was SARS. And I don't think it was mostly used in calm and soothing articles... :|

C ya!

Marty (who's better again, since yesterday, love my work! )

You cannot "build up" antibodies a priori. The Immunoglobulins are generated, go through clonal selection, and only when they are exposed to the particular strain do they undergo clonal expansion.

But you bring up an excellent point - the media has blown this out of proportion. The flu is and always will be in the population, and strains will change from year to year but what we're seeing so far is not particularly noteworthy in terms of epidemic levels.
