Opening Night Setlist Predictions

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
How sick would a The Fly-Mysterious Ways-Lemon-Streets segue be?... That "midnight is where the day begins" would be a chilling lead into Streets.

If well executed, The Troubles might be able to recapture what they've lacked since Please. A real gut ripping, in your face song that just blows you away. But who knows, it could very well not work at all. I know that seems a bit unfair to compare it to arguably U2's best song of all time(argued by me), but it has incredible potential.

Yep, I imagine it could be incredibly arresting if placed late in the main set, like Please as you say or how Bad was on Elevation - or, of course, it could be effective in the encore. I just wonder how they will do it... I've said before that I fear it may not get played except for special occasions with Lykke Li/other guests.

Well...I have been thinking about this...there are probably only 5 songs from SOI that I would REALLY REALLY want to hear live and I know everyone is talking about how Iris is sooo personal etc but it was MADE to be performed live. It's like Streets to City of Blinding Lights to Iris, atmospherically and musically IMO...plus The Edge will sound 1000x better live on it. Anyway...here is my guess assuming they tour without anymore music listed. Also, I think we are going to see not as many older songs, the end of U2360 was kind of a mixture of U2 Greatest Hits and some fan favorites too. I just don't see them doing that as much this time. They said they wanted an album they can tour on, and assuming this is that album, this is my Wild Ass Guess of a setlist:

1) Iris (Hold Me Close)
2) Miracle
3) Gloria or I Will Follow*
4) Vertigo
5) Song for Someone
6) Volcano or Cedarwood Lane
7) New Years Day or Sunday Bloody Sunday*
8) Pride (In the Name of Love)
9) Even Better Than The Real Thing OR The Fly*
10) Every Breaking Waye
11) Sleep Like A Baby Tonight
12) City of Blinding Lights
13) Beautiful Day
14) Raised By Wolves or This Is Where You Reach Me Now
15) One
16) Where the Streets Have No Names

1st Encore

17) Elevation
18) Get On Your Boots
19) With or Without You

2nd Encore

20) Walk On
21) The Troubles (with Lykke Li backing track)

* in cities with multiple dates they would alternate these songs on the different nights

I just rememberd one thing

INVISIBLE
BEAUTIFUL DAY

the bass drum beat continues, and segues into BD

make it happen!!

The Miracle
Volcano
California
Invisible
Every Breaking Wave

I was expecting something like that to open the show but that would be actually perfect imo... I also think that SLABT could be a great closer and I like the idea of A Sort of Homecoming and 11 o'clock making a comeback. Of course there will be also an acoustic moment, especially with what Bono said recently about making acoustic sessions, so I totally expect OL and SFS being played that way. So my setlist:

1. The Miracle
2. Volcano
3. California
4. Invisible
5. Every Breaking Wave
6. New Year’s Day
7. Mysterious Ways
8. Even Better Than The Real Thing
9. Iris
10. With Or Without You
11. Tomorrow
12. Where The Streets Have No Name
13. Beautiful Day
14. City Of Blinding Lights
15. Ordinary Love (acoustic)
16. Song For Someone (acoustic)

17. A Sort Of Homecoming
18. Sunday Bloody Sunday
19. Raised By Wolves/or/Cedarwood Road/or/This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now (I can see them making a rotation between these songs during the tour)
20. 11 O’clock Tick Tock

21. Please
22. One
23. I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
24. Sleep Like A Baby Tonight

01. The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)
02. Every Breaking Wave
03. California (There is no End to Love)
04. Song for Someone

Bad instead of In a little while and it's a damn good setlist I would die to attend!!!!

I just hope there will be a bit of POP, to me it sounds like it could fit really well with the songs on the new album. (And I'm dying to hear Please/Gone/Disco etc live :D)

Considering the subject matter I wonder if we'll finally get Mofo again. Maybe a more raw and even rockier version. That would kick so much ass.:hyper:

I guess a correct prediction is more about nailing the songs than the order since the former is hard enough...

I'll guess:

Boy - Out of Control

October - Gloria

War - New Year's Day, Drowning Man (rehearsed greatly for 360)

Unforgettable Fire - Bad (with MoS out, this is in)

Joshua Tree - Streets (should be the opener imo), Bullet The Blue Sky (back after a tour-long absence), In God's Country (a short rarity), Still Haven't Found

Rattle & Hum - Angel of Harlem (full band)

Achtung Baby - One, Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses (always goes down well, but they rarely play it...this time it'll be chosen as a regular because they played out the rest of that album over the last two tours), Acrobat (yes, Acrobat)

Zooropa/Passengers - Nothing. Hit upon these two records a lot lately and the temptation to pull out other rarities, especially from Pop, means this period will get ignored.

Pop - Discotheque, If God Will Send His Angels (rehearsed for 360)

All That You Can't Leave Behind - Beautiful Day

How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb - Vertigo

No Line On The Horizon - nothing

Songs of Innocence - The Miracle, Every Breaking Wave, California, Volcano

Songs of Experience - Three to four tracks from this one

Total songs on my list above: 24/25

Now that we're pretty much certain that SoE won't drop until after the tour begins, I'm going to make three-to-four additional picks to replace the slots I left open for those songs.

Choice #22 - Raised By Wolves
Choice #23 - Iris
Choice #24 - Desire

If they play 25 songs - Mysterious Ways.

I've rethought my setlist

Very possible setlist!
But I hope it will be a bit less "expected"..... there is really nothing here besides the SOI that I'm excited about (with the exception of PLEASE). But yeah, very possible.

I'd be shocked if Iris isn't played every night. Huge song that should translate well live.

The more I listen to SOI the more I feel U2 will want to play most if not all of the new songs live. I could even see them opening up with about 5-7 of them ala Zoo TV. They spent alot of time on these songs to not play them live.

Agreed. I hope also that they ditch a lot of the stuff they've been playing the last 15 years and for the rest of the set focus on stuff from albums 1-5 which thematically and musically fit with SoI. Imagine 5 songs from SoI then into 11 o'clock tick tock and TUF :drool::drool:

Also, I think we'll see most of ATYCLB take a back seat? :hmm:

Maybe just Beautiful Day will played and hopefully with a new arrangment.

I'd be into that. Stuck, Elevation and Walk On need a break. IALW needs to go away forever. I would LOVE to hear Kite again, but that's it off that album. I guess I'd even welcome a return of New York.

I bet they'll finally pull the trigger on the WOWY/Streets 1-2 combo

Also I'm going for Invisible --> Beautiful Day , with the drum beat making the segue.

I was also thinking that Stand Up (Comedy) has a SOI vibe. Maybe they can make it work.

Stand Up Comedy will never be performed live. I don't think we've got anything to worry about, folks.

If they are doing shows in pairs I really hope it means there will be lots of new stuff and older stuff that hasn't been played live on recent tours. I hope iris and every breaking wave is played every night though. Can't wait!!

I REALLY hope they do this. I see Iris being a Bad-type song that has a good sound in the recording, but they take it live and add a whole new layer of energy and weight to it.

Can't wait to hear it live.

Agreed. This song has the potential to be in my top tier of all time U2 tracks.
