2015 U2 Tour - General Discussion Thread IV

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Do we actually know that every 2nd row is sold out or is it possible they haven't even released them yet and the rows we see for sale are the first set of staggered tickets? Could be pretty lonely up there if so!

I don't think they've been released yet. Resale tickets follow the same pattern of every other row, there are no resale tickets available in these rows. I fully believe this is an attempt to make the upper sections look fuller than they are should it not sell out.

Well that sucks if that's the case . I'll be at that July 2nd show in Chicago, and I expect to see some curtained off sections in the upper corners, as they transplant those people to other unsold sections of the arena.

I guess they figure that with 7 months to go before these London shows happen there is simply no need to go overboard as the tickets will sell at a trickle until then. Whether that theory is correct is another thing...

In all fairness the 5th london show looked very much like the 6th does at this stage( maybe abit more had been sold) then over time the only place you could get seats together were the two small lower blocks. So they were selling pretty well. They have added more seats for sale for the 5th now though.

London is one of those places were theres different people from all over the world there everyday. So you will get alot of tourists going etc etc

With over 6 months until the gig, all they need is time and abit of promotion

That's true. I've no doubt that by showtime all of these gigs will be sold out. It just surprises me how little effort they seem to be making to alert the general public that these shows exist - especially given how much they love to brag about quick sellouts.

I have very tentative plans for a big European trip next year summer with some college choir alumni ... I'm trying to figure out when I'll know if it'll be happening or not. If it's not happening, I could make Dublin happen and still have some $$ for a trip in 2016.

Fingers crossed.

Yeah. I have the luxury of waiting, because I'm already saving travel funds. Either for Big Europe 2016 Trip, or Dublin this fall and Iceland (?) next year. :)

I got tired of waiting for Dublin shows to be announced and booked a trip to Vegas instead. Fuck it

Nothing wrong with that, you're sure to have a great time either way! I went to Vegas when I was in my early 20s with a group of friends. It was a lot of fun, but that was 10 years ago. I'm sure it's changed a lot since then. I want to go back now that I actually have some money to spend!

IF the stadium tour is gonna happen (and with the current state of events, I am not quite as convinced anymore as I was), then I'd definitely suggest to wait for that over an arena, if you've never been to Dublin. Croke Park is something else, just.. never been in a stadium that's literally IN a neighbourhood. Ours is near one, but shit, there's houses right next to the entrance of Croke! It's pretty damn cool.

I assume the O2 will be nice as well, being on the old Point Dupot location. And it sure as hell is a much shorter walk, but yeah. The atmosphere of Croke was great.

Has anyone heard if/when rehearsals have been planned? I seem to remember a blurb where Ali said the guys were setting to practice?

Sorry, but as a veteran of 4 U2 gigs at Croke Park, I have to say that it is a rubbish venue. The acoustics are awful (although improved on 360), it is far too wide in the sense that you are always miles away from the stage even in the closest seats. The atmosphere dissipates much too easily. I imagine the Aviva/Lansdowne would be much better. They only use Croke cause they can get 80-90k people in there at a time, depending on set up, etc.

Never had any problems with any of those things on the field. :D Great acoustics, right on the rail, brilliant gigs.

If 4 gigs makes you a veteran, how would you call someone whose went to 3?

The stones are touring america the same time as u2 are.

San Diego CA Petco Park (May 24)
Columbus Ohio Stadium (30)
Minneapolis MN TCF Bank Stadium (June 3)
Dallas AT&T Stadium (6)
Atlanta Bobby Dodd Stadium (9)
Orlando Orlando Citrus Bowl (12)
Nashville LP Field (17)
Pittsburgh Heinz Field (20)
Milwaukee Summerfest / Marcus Amphitheater (23)
Kansas City Arrowhead Stadium (27)
Raleigh Carter-Finley Stadium (July 1)
Indianapolis Indianapolis Motor Speedway (4)
Detroit Comerica Park (8)
Buffalo Ralph Wilson Stadium (11)
Quebec Le Festival D’Été de Québec (15)

The stones played multiple arena shows in all the major us/canada cities last time through. LA, Vegas, SF, Chicago, NYC, DC, Philly, Boston, Montreal and Toronto. Now they're playing the cities they missed that time. Seems like an unusually high concentration in the Midwest, while the entire northwestern part of the country gets nothing.

I'll definitely be at the Columbus show!

As I'll be in California/Arizona/Nevada until the end of May, that tour opener in San Diego is blinking an eye on me.

But it screws my plans in terms of schedule to go to Las Vegas.

Well, they're suposed to come here to Southamerica in November.
If it's expensive, fuck'em.

That's a given with The $tone$.

Nosebleed tickets are $40 for the Ohio Stadium show. That's what I'm going for. The Stones aren't even one of my favorite bands, but I do enjoy them, and since it's an easy drive for me and I have lots of friends in Columbus, I'll buy a cheap ticket and make a good Saturday night out of it!

Now, good seats are over $400!!! No thanks.

I paid $100 for a GA ticket to see The Rolling Stones a year after I paid $45 for a GA ticket to U2.

I felt like I got a deal for the U2 ticket, and that the Stones ticket was priced about right (in 2006). Even though it poured rain and I was hung over all day, still one of the best concerts I've ever been to. And Kanye, Alice Cooper and Sloan opened for them

If they were playing in Toronto I'd go see them again in a heartbeat.

I wonder if they're doing that thing with the cheap tickets they did with the last tour's cheap tickets - some of the cheap tickets had a "surprise" location. You might be in the nosebleeds, or you might be very close.

That's an awesome idea. Had they played in Seattle, I absolutely would have gone (even if I'd ended up in the nosebleeds).

I wish U2 was doing a tour like this in 2015! Alex, Eddie and David are all over 60, so their ahead in the age department over U2.

To be fair, DLR's voice is only showing up to about 5 of those cities.

That's not fair at all. Buy the new live album out today. You'll see that DLR still sounds pretty good.

Hmmm... I think I might go see Van Halen in Cincinnati. Just get a cheap lawn ticket, should be a good show. I wish they'd get Michael Anthony back on bass and complete the original lineup, but he's very much "Team Hagar" these days, although I think it's more "anti-Eddie" than anything.
