October 28 - Vancouver BC Canada

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I don't have any advice on lining up for GA, as I've always had seats in the past, but just so you know, the weather can be pretty gross at that time of year. Come prepared for rain! The stadium is covered, so you'll be fine once you're inside, but outside there's no overhang or anything to protect you from adverse weather.

thats why we picked a close hotel... we will still enjoy the GA experience, but be able alternately to run back to hotel to dry off if needed. Oct weather in BC is always a crapshoot.

I've gone to many football games @ BC Place, damp from the rain.

I waffled about going for GA for Vancouver, but figuring on the weather possibly being iffy, and having to drive up from Seattle and being in line all day = extra night in a hotel, I opted for a seat so I don't even have to drive up until that afternoon.

Sorry if this has been discussed. I'm too lazy to read back through this thread. :D

Is Vancouver a place where one should consider camping out the night before, or at least get there super early in the morning for GA? For those with past experience with U2 shows in the city, what would you say?

Of course, because a lot of people may be coming here from around the area, since there are fewer cities, it may be more intense for GA. :hmm:

Any thoughts would be appreicated!

Get there before noon and you'll be fine. People here are laid back and apathetic to a point and I never hear of poeple waiting days in line for ANYTHING beyond the odd apartment complex deal or desirable children's school/daycare.

The venue is surround by a very wide public sidewalk. If you stay the night you'll be passed by guys pushing shopping carts with all their worldly pocesssions.

I got into the heart on Elevation Vancouver at 3pm.

Yes noon the day of the show will be fine, especially since its such a big venue.:applaud:

I will be meeting friends for breakfast @ 8 am, I'm going to see if anyone is lining up before then and see what it will look like after we eat. Playing it by ear, I guess.

Thanks for the reminder. They've aired a lot of spots on TV in the Seattle area reminding us that we needed them, but not sure how many other Americans from other parts of the country will be going and might not have that information.

I read on the US passport site that WA residents don't need a passport to drive into Canada. We only need either the passport card or get an enhanced license. I am coming up from the "other Couv" Vancouver, WA. This is my 5th show... First time with GA. Does anyone know are their lockers inside? Just wonderin... Sounds like it is going to be a long day in line~ Will throw umbrella and chair away if I have too! lol Can't wait! :applaud:

 Welcome!

I just renewed my license last year, so I'm not ready to go get a new, enhanced license yet. But good to know!

I would doubt there are public lockers inside the stadium.

Hello All,
I am gettin ready for the shows in Dublin in a couple of weeks, but since i will be living in Canada for a year i thought it would be a good idea to go to the vancouver show too. I have a visa for a year and expect to land in vancouver in mid september before hitting whistler for the winter.

Since I am fron Ireland i am not familiar with vancouer at all so i was looking for some advice as to where is cheap and close to the venue to stay, also i got 2 seats but i think my friend might let me down so i might have a spare or if someone has GA that they want to trade for the seats

There are a couple of inexpensive Best Westerns that are within one or two miles of the stadium.

I've stayed at the Best Western Chateau Granville (I think that's what it's called) a few times in the past and had good experiences there, although it can get pretty loud out on the street in that neighborhood. That one is about 2 miles from the stadium, I think. Maybe not that far.

I'm staying at another inexpensive hotel closer to the stadium, but haven't stayed there before so can't say if it's any good or not.

:)

Hi chipcount

I'm in the same boat as you! From Ireland and first time in Vancouver.

I've booked a room at this hotel.

It says it's a "short stroll to BC Place".

Okay, cathal - we're apparently both going to Chicago, Vegas, and Vancouver.

Are you stalking me?

In Europe, it's first come first serve, and it sounds like there've been 3,000 - 4,000 people getting into the inner circle.

I've seen reports from people who wandered into the stadium an hour before showtime and were right up against the outer rail.

I can only guess they'll keep it the same for the US, which makes me thrilled to think that you can get a great spot without having to hang out in line all day.

^touching on that hotel you stayed at on Granville. That's not a bad one but ya that street is a bit noisy cause it's the city 'zoned' entertainment street. Should be ok on a weeknight though. It's only 3/4 of mile(1 km) or about 8 blocks from the stadium.

I did some info for people coming to Vancouver from out of town -

For budget minded people. There's several safe, clean, and inexpensive hotels to stay at in the Downtown peninsula for around C$100(currently US$86). It would be hard to find anything cheaper that would be desirable. Unless you have a deal with a flight/hotel package or some special deal advertised than it can cost upwards $130+ a night for your Best Westerns or Holiday Inns. I'll post some hotels that I know of personally.

As for getting to the stadium and distances. Everywhere in the Downtown Vancouver peninsula, including the stadium is walking distance and able to do within 20 mins. The downtown area is where most restaurants, tourist stuff, etc., is located. Think of it as a mini Manhattan. The downtown is served by 3 metro/subway lines(called Skytrain), one of which stops at the stadium, but if you're staying downtown then walking is just easier anyway. The newest line is a subway connecting the airport directly with downtown in 25 mins.

Here's some budget hotels for around $100 or less located on the central shopping street - Robson Street - that connects straight to the stadium. They're not fantastic but their clean, been refurbished, safe, and central.

Tropicana - Tropicana Suite Hotel

Greenbrier - Greenbrier Hotel

Riviera - Riviera Hotel -Vancouver British Columbia Canada

Robsonstrasse - Downtown Vancouver discount hotels, robson street BC Canada

I'm staying at the YWCA Hotel for the show, it's pretty cheap and practically smack up against the stadium and has good reviews and is quite highly rated on TripAdvisor, including being a Best Bargain winner. Despite it being YWCA, guys and gals can stay there. Last I checked though the double rooms with full private bath look to be totally booked for that time period already.

Yeah, seriously. I've only stayed there on a weekend, so not sure if the clubs are as hopping on weeknights. There tend to be some loud, drunken folks roaming the streets in the middle of the night.

Not to mention all the porn shops nearby. But it's not a bad hotel, I swear! :uhoh:

Yeah, but in an Irish getting there first kinda way :)

I only have a little bit of Irish heritage. Must not be enough to have that "getting there first" gene in me.

Ah Robson, that was the first street I lived on.

BTW, does anybody know about bus options (besides Greyhound and Amtrak) between Seattle and Vancouver? Am actually flying in and out of Seattle because it was way cheaper, and spending time there too before heading to Vancouver.
