Setlist Predictions / Discussion

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
i wasn't being sarcastic?? but if you like I can go on a tyraid about how you should actually check the forum for an appropriate place to post, rather than start different threads on the same topic and clog the forum with the same shit :wave:

No need to lie. The waving smilie face in your first comment was OBVIOUSLY sarcastic as proven by your putting two of them in the last comment.

Also, this is a very specific topic about the setlist and how not changing it could tarnish their live legacy (IMO.) So I think it deserves its own thread.

You can rant all you want but it will be up to the mods...

whats your problem? Sarcasm? Lying? i added the wave so it didn't look like I was just being a forum nazi telling you where to put it, while disguising my frustration at once again seeing an unecessary thread appear. Believe what you want, but you are so very very wrong.

By the way, you'd better turn around, because the aliens are coming to get you

Setlist will be the same format as always.

Some new songs...some greatest hits.....2-3 "surprises" that are not really surprises.

All the wishlists we've done....forget it. I mean, I'm amazed they did the Boy stuff on vertigo......but at this point, they've gotta pull out Mofo, ASOH, and So cruel to surprise me.....

which means they're been pretty good about the material.....the part I hate is when they refuse to retire Pride, WOWY, SBS, and played vertigo twice ( a sin I will never forgive them....even thinking about it now makes me nuts)

:hmm:

Which aliens?! The ones from the LNOE video?! As long as U2 helps like they did in the video I won't mind ;]

I was referring to your paranoid theory about my alleged sarcasm/lying.

ANYWAY! I think we'll get a few songs, similarly suprising to hear An Cat Dubh etc, but there wont be many of them

Heh - I guess if they play Mercy, the Interferencers will be easy to spot. We'll be the only ones singing along! ;)

I've seen their shows since the UF tour. Unfortunately I think the prospect of them reaching back in their catalogue is zero—not going to happen. They have no reason to. The U2 corporation is out there for one reason. I saw a thread about some hairdresser who wrote a book about U2. Didn't read the book but from the few quotes I saw it really backs up my feelings of how u2 operates and their "live" shows.

I see alot of live music. Suggestion: go get your face melted at a Phish show, goto Bonnaroo, go see My Morning Jacket, then the next time you see see a U2 "production" it'll seem like a Jonas Brothers concert, or Disney on Ice.

I like their music. I have a feeling that their new album is moving towards zoorpa on the dial so they'll earn some cred with me for that, but as far as their next tour I think I'll pass. I practically fell asleep in my seat during U2's last 2 shows ( All You Can't and HTDAAB tours )

15. Acrobat

ENCORE I:
16. Mofo

18. Breathe
19. Beautiful Day
20. Moment Of Surrender

ENCORE II:
21. Vertigo
22. 11 O'clock Tick Tock
23. Cedars Of Lebanon

No tired warhorses but the new songs along with fresh arrangements for older, not too played and still relevant songs. That would be great and diverse. It would inject new life into their live performances and if they give their all (like they always do) to make up for not having those old classics there we could have some very special shows. It just takes a bit of baldness and U2 was always bald.

Now that the album is closer and we have a solid idea of what most of the songs sound like, I will take a stab at this:

1.)No Line on the Horizon
2.)Get on your Boots
3.)Even better than the real thing
4.)Vertigo
5.)Still havent found
6.)Unforgettable fire
7.)Unknown Caller
8)Beautiful Day/hallejuah
9.)Crazy Tonight
10.)New Year's Day
11.)Sunday Bloody Sunday
12.)Silver and Gold
13.)Pride(In the Name of Love)
14.)Moment of Surrender
15.)Where the Streets have No Name
16.)One
end of the main set
Pop Music over PA
17.)Last Night on earth
18.)Fez-Being Born
19.)Ultraviolet
---------------------------------------
20.)Magnificent
21.)Breathe
22.)Love is Blindness
23.)Cedars of Lebanon

This is a template, U2 can rotate within something like this. I had to be realistic and leave the classics in. You will find there is still room for rarities here.
Rotations these numbers I will mention should rotate night by night throughout the tour to keep it dynamic:
3.)EBTTRT/Mysterious Ways/Discoteque/UTTEOTW
4.)Vertigo/I will follow/Out of Control/Gloria/Cry/Electric co
5.)Still havent found/Promenade
6.)UF/A sort of homecoming (Select performances, MLK comes before the title track to UF)
10.)NYD/Two Hearts/Surrender
11.)SBS/LAPOE
12.)Silver and Gold/Bad
13.)Pride/Walk On/When you look at the world
16.)One/Kite
17.)LNOE/MOFO/The Fly
19.)Ultraviolet/Wire/COBL(this is the wild card spot, but if WOWY can work after the fly, COBL can after all the 17 options and Fez)

New Songs: NLOTH, Magnificent, MOS, UC, Crazy, GOYB, SUC, Breathe. I'm sure COL will also get its playing time somewhere along the line. Fez and WAS I'm guessing won't be played (WAS sometimes maybe)

Must do's: Streets, BTBS, One, BD, Vertigo

That's roughly 13 spots taken each night of a (let's say roughly) 20 Song set. Let's add another 2 songs that U2 always suprise us with (11oclock/OOC in Elevation for instance, or ZooStation/ElectricCo on Vertigo). So roughly another 5 songs to play from their huge back catalogue.

Stadium shows will need to suit masses better (1 gig in 1 city, especially in Europe) will resemble and provoke Greatest-Hits setlists much more. So add WOWY, Pride, Elevation, Mysterious Ways, and I will follow...and I guess you have your setlist :reject:

24. 40

That was incredibly hard to do...which says a lot about the quality of songs over 12 albums and over 30 years.
A setlist like this is possible, and requires rehearsing 35 songs, maybe 40, considering they'll grow tired of couple of these and throw in stuff like: Pride, Gloria, AIWIY, Angel of Harlem, EBTTRT, The Fly, Discotheque, Gone, Elevation, and Sometimes You Can't...
As for the rarities I've thrown in that haven't been played in years, they are simply guesses. If I'm wrong (and I'm sure I will be), you could instead see: Exit, Two Hearts..., In God's Country, Ultraviolet, Sweetest Thing, Stay, Hold Me Thrill Me..., etc.
So many possibilities for a 2 1/2 hour show...!

While on one hand you will think, "Gosh...you're stupid....no Streets, no Bullet, One, SBS, NYD, I Will Follow, UTEOTW, Pride." My thinking is this....it is an entirely different album. Very little political stuff. SBS, NYD and Bullet wouldn't fit. I think WOWY, One, I Will Follow and Pride are just going to be retired. IN all honesty, this isn't too out there of a setlist. Still 'classics', the return of live hits from albums that are closer to NLOTH in my opinion.

I really believe U2 is restless with the same ol same ol and is going to pull out lots of surprises this tour. And this is my take.

My guess for the "main" setlist....I have left out a lot of "warhorses" so it probably isn't very realistic. Also trying to avoid cliches like Streets at the end of the main set.....

1) Magnificent
2) Breathe
3) Even Better Than The Real Thing
4) Beautiful Day
5) Wire
6) Unforgettable Fire
7) Bad
8) Streets

Encore 2:
20) Electric Co
21) All Along the Watchtower
22) One Tree Hill

These setlist threads are always interesting.

Just a couple of my predictions and I dont necessarily think they are good things.

Electric Co will most likely not be done this tour. Love the song, was thrilled it was done on Vertigo. Apparantly though the band got bored with it. Dallas Schoo was asked about it during the S. American leg and said you wont see Electric Co again. Not a good sign IMO. Of course things and opinions with the band can change. I unfortunately dont see it happening.

I'm not sure what the "suprise" song or songs will be this tour. The dream songs I have left to hear them do in person are:

God Part II
Hawkmoon 269

I doubt they will be done. But prior to Vertigo Electric Co was on my list and I never thought they would play it again. So you never know I guess.

My guess is either POP, Joshua Tree or Unforgettable Fire could see more attention this tour. I think the new album has POP and Unf. Fire influence in it and some of those songs would flow nicely with the new stuff. I say Joshua Tree because they released a successful box set remaster of it since the last tour. So maybe something unusual from that album will pop up. Its really hard to say at this point. Prior to Vertigo I would have said there is no way they are playing Zoo Station, An Cat Dubh and The Ocean. So anything is possible. I guess thats what makes this time frame kind of exciting, because we just dont know, at all right now.

My one request though, PLEASE, drop Bullet, just for a tour!! :)

I can't really fit all the songs I want to hear in the setlist so I'll just predict where I think the new songs will be. Let's assume 25 songs a night.

1. No Line on the Horizon
2. Get On Your Boots
3. Magnificent
4. Stand Up Comedy
5. Moment of Surrender
6. Crazy Tonight
7. Maybe something like Pride or New Year's Day as the first old song
8.
9.
10.
11.
12. First song of the acoustic section
13. White as Snow
14.
15.
16. Unknown Caller
17. Where the Streets Have No Name

ENCORE 1:
18.
19.
20.
21. Breathe

ENCORE 2:
22.
23.
24.
25. Cedars of Lebanon

I don't see Fez being played more than a few times.

As for the other songs, keep "Mysterious Ways" in the setlist at all costs, cap the ATYCLB/HTDAAB at like 4 (Vertigo, COBL, Beautiful Day, one other that isn't Elevation), and just surprise us with the rest.
