I have to say that my friends are really just Top 40 listeners so the fact that I threw some Snow Patrol and an "unknown" Killers song into the mix is just me trying to fight the man.

This is just one of those mixes that you want on in the background so you can still talk to everyone but every few minutes say, "Oh shit, I love this song!"

I really look at making mixes as an artform (one I have clearly not mastered!).

My one friend, we'll call her "Penelope", has a decent music collection (top 40-wise at least) but when she makes a mix, she just throws all the songs into a playlist and is done.

Penelope also puts in shit that only she has heard before, you know?
Like, WHY.

Mixes are made first and foremost for the audience. Not the creator...unless you are trying to get someone into new music. For something like our Florida trip, you need to know your audience and know that as soon as that first song comes on that they don't know they will go, "What is this? Go to the next song" which will immediately destroy the flow of the entire mix. So, while I might not love these mixes competely, I think they are great for my audience.

I totally understand. I made a wedding limo mix for my friend back in may. I made sure the songs she liked were in the perfect place.

We ended up making the driver circle a few times so we could hear all the songs.
