video file conversion help

here's the problem:

i have: AVI files

i want: a DVD (or some format that will play on our DVD player)


i've tried just burning the file to the dvd, data disk, but the player doesn't read that. (although whle attempting to read it i think it was mating with it, at least it sounded like it was. )


any suggestions?


oh yeah i have a mac, for those who didn't know
