Is your iTunes up to date?

Either way, reinstall or repair, sometimes the iTunes helper thingy is iffy. I know you said you had an oldish iPod, so it may not recognise the new one if its not an updated iTunes.

Also, if the laptop wont recognise, it may need drivers. Did the nano come with a CD? If not you may need to download some drivers from the iTunes site. (or elseware, do a google.)

I have an Acer aspire 3692, and I dont have recognition problems with mine or my friends ipods. :eyebrow:

the problem is not with itunes (i reinstalled it just in case).
the computer doesn't recognize the ipod at all.
the ipod didn't come with a CD.
which driver might i need to download?

i wonder if i just need to reformat the ipod itself and start over? maybe i didn't select to have the ipod update manually or something?

YAY it works!

i reset the ipod itself by toggling the hold button back and forth then hodling down the center and menu button for 6 seconds and voila! i plugged it in and the computer found the ipod!!! :hyper: :applaud:
