Mouse Help

I unplugged the mouse to my laptop and I went to plug it back in and now it won't work. Its happened before with a previous mouse and I ended up just buying another one. Anyway to fix it so I don't have to do that again?

I usually restart my computer and that takes care of it most of the time. The last time it didn't so I bought a wireless mouse.
