Get my website to appear on google?

I created a very basic webpage, mainly to direct peeps to a facebook group/campaign i started. I used one of these free webpage creator sites. I want the page to turn up in google searches.
I had a look into how to do this.....but im thinking that because i dont get HTML view in the online web page creator program...i cant cut and paste the Meta Tags i need into the appropriate place... under the "head"
Does anyone know an alternative method of getting my page to turn up in search results?

The meta tags are only a small factor. You can actually submit your site to Google. Also the more places your site is linked externally, the more it helps (so the more web sites that link to you help your rating).

Hi Liesje. I tried all the different options with Google web developer tools. I cant seem to do any of them...as i cant get acess to the HTML coding. Its more of a WYSIWYG style site. Do you know if there are any free web building sites out there that would allow me to get the site to turn up in Google searches?

You have to submit the site to Google if it hasn't been indexed/crawled yet.

There are plenty of free hosting/building options but it's not as simple as just putting in the meta tags into the HTML. I made a site for several doctors and their practice and it took about a year before we got onto the first page of Google hits (and these people had fairly unique names, not like searching "Dr. John Smith").

Also I believe the crawlers look at the actual HTML, so make sure keywords exist in the HTML of the page and everything else design-wise is controlled by CSS or whatever "language" you are using to design the page.
