Apparently the script is a flaming piece of shit.

J.J. does want to rewrite it though, but can't do anything about it till the strike is over.

Hmm. Well that may be good reason to go see Cloverfield sooner than later.

The best Star Trek movies were made by people who came in knowing jack shit about Star Trek. I am still holding out hope, Lance.

So am I. The potential here is pretty great. And series reboots have been doing surprisingly well the past few years "Casino Royale/Batman Begins". I really hope this one turns out OK.

I do agree, but they had the original cast or Next Gen cast to work with - something people can relate to. There may be so many fans vehemently against there being "a recast TOS cast" that they don't see it. I don't agree with them, but I hope this is the thing that revitalizes the franchise.

The last time Star Trek has been consistently awesome was the last season of DS9... that was 9 years ago.

Voyager had its moments (The Doctor and Seven of Nine), but it was pretty terrible. And fuck Enterprise - It's the Episode I of Star Trek.

A third of the theatre either shouted or applauded by the time the trailer was done, when I saw Cloverfield tonight.

It was the best part of seeing Cloverfield

The viral marketing campaign has already started. I got all three of the cameras focused at the 1701 site, but Camera 2 is a bitch :(

Another reason I'm happy J.J. is involved.

Christmas 2008??? That's so far off...! I thought I'd heard this summer somewhere.

Well looks like all you Star Trek Fans will have to wait until May 2009 to see the film as it has been pushed back,

'Star Trek' pushed back to 2009

Paramount shuffles major releases

By PAMELA MCCLINTOCK

'Star Trek'
Paramount is pushing back the release of J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" from Dec. 25 to May 8, 2009, saying the pic's gross potential is greater as a summer tentpole.

Move was part of a major reshuffling to the studio's release calendar, as well as to DreamWorks' release sked. A second key change: DreamWorks' 2008 Ben Stiller summer comedy "Tropic Thunder" is moving from July 11 to Aug. 15.

That's likely to mean that another film will take "Tropic's" old spot on July 11, particularly since there is such a dearth of broad comedies in the May-July stretch.

Like Par, many of the majors are likely to revisit their release skeds in the wake of the writers' strike as they try to balance out their 2008 and 2009 calendars.

Why would the script need to be re-written? Have you read it?

Early word is that it's pretty horrible, and that JJ was desiring to re-write it, but couldn't because of the writer's strike. I'm wondering if the delay has something to do with this.
