Here's hoping Sean wins for MILK:love: I'm torn between Hugh Laurie and Jon Hamm for Best Actor in a Drama Series, as well as between House and Mad Men for best Drama Series. I'm hoping January Jones takes Best Actress in a Drama, but I'm a little disappointed to see that Elisabeth Moss and Christina Hendricks weren't nominated in it as well. They were both brilliant in season 2. Those are pretty much the only categories I care about at this point

In Bruges in the comedy category, huh? It's got some funny bits in it, but .... hmm.

These are the people that continue to combine that category with musicals, and who nominated Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in it. Golden Globes are a joke.

Heath FTW.

Also, 30 Rock for the fucking win. And Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey. And Bruce. And fuck them for not recognizing LOST.

Serious props to the HFPA for nominating Kristen Scott Thomas, who's been a little overlooked so far this season. And for Rebecca Hall, whose performance in Vicky Cristina Barcelona was overshadowed by Penelope Cruz's fireworks. Strange that Woody didn't get a screenplay nom, though.

Yeah, GAF, they didn't nom Lost, but I'm just happy again for Mad Men, specifically for January Jones, who has a good chance to win. LOVE her:

I was just thinking the other day that January Jones never gets any props. I'm almost done season 1, and she is friggin excellent. Just as good as anyone on that show, and better than most.

Roger Sterling = Hero.

i'm going to try to see this over the weekend.

my uninformed speculation: KST will get an Oscar nod. she's mentioned frequently in the critics lists, and this might be the start of her role catching fire amongst the people that decide these sort of things.

looking like it will be her up against Hathaway, Streep, and one of the various Winslett roles.

all that makes me happy. stellar actresses, all. it will be interesting to see what will happen. they tend to love to give Best Actress to someone on her way up -- i.e., Paltrow -- and that bodes well for Hathaway. it really does seem like Meryl Streep might get nominated because she is Meryl Streep, but then again, she continuously loses precisely because she is Meryl Streep, and we expect this thing from her.

i adore Winslett, always have, and she's the future Greatest Living Actress (which is what Meryl is now).

i could very well see KST emerging as somewhat of a "surprise" like Marion Cotillard last year. she probably should have won for "english patient" 10 years ago.

but i need to go see me some movies.

Don't forget Sally Hawkins, Irvine. She just won both the Los Angeles and NY film critics awards for Best Actress, and is likely to win the Comedy/Musical actress award at the Globes.

I'd be very surprised if she doesn't make Oscar's final five.

also, notable that TDK was shut-out in the major categories (picture, director).

i think Heath will win, both this and the Oscar. first, because it will provide the ceremony with a sense of drama and poignancy, and give people a reason to watch on TV. it will be a "moment," like when Halle Berry won. second, it's a totally deserving performance, much like Berry's was. third, in retrospect, and with respect to PSH, Heath really should have won for BBM.

my uncle was raving about this movie over Thanksgiving. and Leigh movies tend to get acting nominations at the very least.

it looks like a very strong category this year, which means it was a good year for women's roles, which is a good thing.

Marion Cotillard hands down, deserved all the noms and wins she got last year.

I am a big fan of Kristen Scott Thomas, this film is not her best work at all.

There is one big scene, that the whole movie is built around.

I don't buy the main premise of the movie at all,
it is so not plausible, I found the movie some what disappointing.

I also, think Slumdog is over- rated.

Danny Boyle discovers - India :yippie:

i do like that Danny Boyle -- whether good or not, his films are very vibrant. "trainspotting" remains one of my absolute favorite movies.

i plan to see "slumdog" as well.

Bollywood is vibrant

for me, the best part was the Bollywood dance scene during the closing credits, stay for that - very joyful.

I think Slumdog is good.

I just don't think it is the best movie of the year.

It would have made my top 20.

I'm surprised Milk and TDK didn't get much love in the Drama category. I highly doubt The Reader or any of the comedies will make the Oscar list.

James Franco for P.E.! Fuck yeah.

The only other real surprise there for me is Tom Cruise for Tropic Thunder. But that's great, since he was really the only thing I liked about that movie.

So all of the Best Drama movies for the whole year are just coming out now? It's weird to look at a list of nominees in December and realize I've hardly seen anything even though I am an avid and way above-average moviegoer. I do, however, live in a place that doesn't always get the new releases immediately.

I am surprised about Milk, but never felt The Dark Knight was going to do well here. They tend to go for period pieces, stuff like that.
