If it is going to set you people at ease:

1-Koran doesn't define Christians or Jews as 'infidels', but rather as the people of the book. If you'd really like to know, I could give you an account of who those infidels were when the book came up. But you can be sure that the current use of the word by extremists doesn't reflect the use in Koran.
2-Pertaining hatred against the Westerners doesn't really apply because.. well, 1400 years ago there was no concept of 'the West'.
