I'm not saying at all that this survey is scientific or at all definitive, but it just made me wonder what the opinions are of the people in FYM. I'm not saying that faith and spirituality is the secret either-this only says that these 100 people said so. And they did use those words rather than religion. How many people are there in the world and in the US who are over the age of 100? I have no idea. Would you want to live to be over 100?

(Reuters) Faith and spirituality were cited most often by people over the age of 100 as the source of their longevity, according to a survey sponsored by a unit of UnitedHealth Group.

In a survey of 100 people between the ages of 100 and 104, 23 percent said faith rather than genes and good medical care were responsible for their long life.

Other factors given included hard work, a healthy diet and "living a good, clean life."

Sixty-one percent of those surveyed said there was nothing they would have done more of in their lives and 78 percent said there is nothing they would have done less.

About 13 percent said they wished they had traveled more, 9 percent said they wished they had worked less and 6 percent said they wished they had spent more time with their families.

The survey, conducted by Evercare which provide health plans to the disabled and chronically ill, indicated that 30 percent of centenarians considered raising a family as their most satisfying achievement while 20 percent valued mostly their careers.

a women used to live next door to me who lived to be 89 and she always had red whine and drank hot water

Red wine is mentioned quite often, I've never heard of the hot water. Some people smoke and drink and still live long lives, I have no desire to do either to any great extent for any reason. If I had to pick one thing as a key to a long life, maybe I'd say inner emotional and psychological peace. Inner turmoil of that type takes a toll on you mentally and thus physically, and physically. Everyone has it, but maybe how you deal with it is the key.

I think some things in FYM are taking years off my life as I type this. So many days it's like FYM Groundhog Day...where's Bill Murray?

I have no desire to live to be 100, I want a much earlier out than that.

I completely agree.

Stress will kill you faster than anything else. Some people have really great ways of coping with stress - it seems like nothing disturbs them. Others fly off the handle, get ulcers, are constantly agitated or nervous or worried. I don't know why this is, probably something to do with personality differences or your environmental factors, but I think we can probably all change how we react to things, at least to some extent.

I'd say a sound and mild outlook not to mention a sturdy sense of humour. Most of the terrible things that happen in life leaves you with two options: To cry or to laugh. When you're done crying it's nice to be able to laugh a bit.

I'm not sure if living a healthy lifestyle makes you live longer or just makes you feel like time is going twice as slow.

Humor, fun, ability to shake things off, companionship, intellectual and emotional stimulation. A passion, maybe.

And McDonald's double quarter pounders. And Johnny Walker Black.

The stress hormone, cortisol, essentially eats you alive in abundance, so that's probably one reason why it kills people, aside from psychology.

Hate to be the guy in the green mile , living to be 100+ watching all his friends and family dying and being left with a 80 year old mouse.

My idea of hell.

RE the warm water thing, I remember reading somewhere a while ago that it's easier for the body to absorb that (ice) cold water, so rehydrates you more effectively. ???? Who knows?

I think the key is to stay active.

The secrets are simple, and not secrets really....

Happiness
Balance
Virtue
Serenity
Peace
Love

Those are key, for sure.

I'll add a sense of humour and eternal curiosity to the list. I see both of these in my 96-year-old grandmother.

I haven't played it for a LONG time. However, I did so much back in the day that I would go to sleep and dream about it.
