Hey, rafmed:

I saw this same info this weekend in my local newspaper here in the U.S. It is pretty bad if all of it is true. It makes me wonder if "good governement" is possible in Afghanistan.

Also, thanks for posting this article from MSNBC; I guess that kind of dis-proves the complaint that American media will not criticize any element of the U.S.'s "war on terror"!

I agree on your apreciation of the media, its not possible to generalize, I think is brave to show this article to the public opinion.

About the subject, yes its sad, I think "good goverment" can be achieved anywhere, even in Afghanistan, democracy on teh other hand usually takes time to settle, specially in places where totalitarian governments has been historic.
What I believe and hope, is that this kind of atrocities will be punished, this is the time for the USA to show that their arguments about not agreeing to an international court on war crimes be proven. The ones guilty for this actions should be punished, and if USA forces knew about this and did nothing to prevent them also should receive the blame they deserve, as I say I'm not generalizing, but it would be dangerous that the USA government would do nothing to clarify this subjet, it would affect their credibility.

actually, i saw this on nbc news, my local news, and in both of our local papers. it was very well covered here. it was, however, made a strong point that the offenders were not directly us troops. at least there was something.

That is indeed pretty horrifying if it is true. I am kind of disappointed that the US isn't keeping a closer watch over Afghanistan right now.

Like everyone... I too hope it isn't true. It would be like another Vietnam only in the desert, where the U.S. would only kill two enemy and report it as 5 or 7, but in this case would be like killing 10 and reporting only 1. Sheesh, it gives me the creeps. And all that propaganda that they put out in the media makes it even more suspicious. I think that they are doing okay, but I wonder if that is what what they really are doing?

I saw an Afghani man on TV tonight saying , please do not send back the refugees. There is no housing or employment. There is a real estate boom going on there at the moment and the poor get poorer.

Speaking of unemployment.....the drummer from my husband's band is in East Timor at the moment. He went there on a church mission to build a new church. Tonight on the TVnews I saw rather dramatic street demonstration going on in East Timor, unemployment being the major issue. I hope he is OK. he's only 24, strapping lad fortunately, but still.... I hope they/we are all OK.

Hey Cass, I ADORE John Marsden. A few years ago, I read 'Tomorrow, when the war began' and was absolutely hooked. I read the following 2 books in that story, 'The dead of the night' and 'Third day, the frost'. I enjoyed all 3 of them on so many different levels, not only because here was a book that finally questioned what would indeed happen if Australia was invaded.

I read the article on the World Socialist Web Site. It is great that they World Socialist Web Site (an internationally partisan political organization) brought attention to Mr. Doran's movie. Although the mainstream U.S. media has not given much attention to Mr. Doran's documentary involving interviews with 6 alleged witnesses (no physical evidence), the mainstream U.S. media HAS given coverage to the potential massacre of November, 2001 1 in Mazar-i-sharif.

What does the World Socialist Web Site expect the mainstream U.S. media to do about Mr. Doran's film? Invite him over here and throw him a Hollywood premier with red carpet and stars and all?

I recall reading an article a couple of years ago on the World Socialist Web Site that deeply troubled me. The World Socialist Web Site was critical of the People's Liberation in Southern Sudan yet accomodating to the shariaic/militant regime in Khartoum, and was critical of Western support of the liberation movement in southern Sudan in their efforts to rid their villages of visits from slave traders from Khartoum. However, last fall, when President Bush began communicating with the government in order to seek their assistance with finding terrorists in return for the eventual lifting of some trade sanctions (a move by President Bush which I was not pleased with), the World Socialist Web Site is suddenly critical of the Khartoum government and starts like they are siding witht he Liberation movement in the south.

It makes me think that the World Socialist Web Site is biased against the U.S.

I would say, the World Socialist Web site is critical to the US and although i am a member of the Socialist party here in the Netherlands, i think that the information on this website is coloured . But they did inform me about the film. I also read the CNN website to keep me in balance Anyway, reading different news sites keeps me intrested in different opinions and invites me to find out wat is the thruth ( i hope ) .

BTW, it puzzle me how many people are angry about those poor puppy`s that died and nobody want to tell me how the western world tested their biological and chemical weapons .

I could be wrong, but I think the only biological or chemical weapon that the US has ever tested was Agent Orange, which was used only on vegetation.

There have been allegations that the US tested mycoplasma on death row inmates and during the Gulf War, but I don't think any of these allegations have been fully substantiated.

I am also familiar with Guardian; I hope you realize that they tend to be biased in favor of the left as well; for example, tonight they have a column blasting Bryan Ferry and his family for supporting fox hunting.

The US Independents site was an interesting look at an independent film organization; I noticed that they also link to a U.S. Yahoo news article on the alleged involvement of US troops in the alleged massacre, published in June 2002, as well as the Salon article.
