Virus/Worm Programmers are Bastards

[start rant]

I've never been infected with one, luckily, but, truthfully, you never know. Today I received an e-mail worm in my e-mail, and I could tell right away that it was yet another e-mail worm, even without knowing what this was. I found out later it was "W32/SirCam@MM" (Description), not the "W32/Nimda@MM" worm that has been receiving all the publicity lately. Basically, it is yet another worm that capitalizes on Microsoft's security flaws in Outlook, while going a step further and analyzing e-mail addresses in cached HTML files--which is likely where mine came from, as it was my web site administrator account.

Indirectly, I hate Microsoft too for making this so easy in Microsoft Outlook, which is what 99% of modern worms exploit to propagate itself. What other e-mail programs have so many security flaws that would allow you to propagate nearly everything to a remote user's address book? Then, on top of it, I've pretty much surmised that Microsoft still hides it's file attachment extensions. Why else would files named like "file.xls.pif" work so well? I've never used Outlook for this reason. Microsoft may have deemed that file extensions are now useless in the days where everything has a cutsy little icon like in a Mac OS, but, obviously, it makes it far easier to dupe the average computer user who has enough trouble finding a specific application shortcut in the "Start Menu," let alone delinate between a real MS Excel file (*.xls) and a disguised one. Needless to say, I use Netscape 6.1's mail service.

But most of all, I'm tired of the morons who are still creating them, with 99% of them coming from non-English speaking nations (obvious by their horrendous command of the English language in the message body of these worms). If these people would use their energy to, let's say create a valid competitor to Windows, just imagine what good they would make now? And they could even quelch that enemy whose security flaws they've been exploiting for years. Instead, they are cowardly morons, hiding behind their computer, who chuckle besides themselves.

I guess I'm disgusted at all angles lately. I'm disgusted at the programmer, who is evil enough to create these worms/viruses. I'm disgusted at Microsoft for having all these security flaws that can be exploited by these programmers. Furthermore, I'm disgusted at all the computer users who actually click on these attachments spreading them further worldwide. Basically, if you don't click on them, they don't spread.

I don't know about society anymore....

And even though most of them had gone under, their ignorance had confused Roy, making him wonder whether the things he had striven to learn, and thought of as 'culture,' were irrelevant. Everything was supposed to be the same: commercials, Beethoven's late quartets, pop records, shopfronts, Freud, multi-coloured hair. Greatness, comparison, value, depth: gone, gone, gone. Anything could give some pleasure; he saw that. But not everything provided the sustenance of a deeper understanding." - Hanif Kureishi, Love in a Blue Time
