US Politics XXXIII: Get Inoculated!

Hey I was wondering where the Taliban have been. Does this mean the media porn about covid is over now?

No. Unvaccinated people will continue to die for many weeks to come and continue to ruin everything for everyone.

Oh, wait. You were trying to make some sort of point?

There had to be a better way to do this outside of just continuing forever wars.

Hey, person who argues in bad faith.

It is possible to be critical of the handling of Afghanistan while also understanding that there's a big fuck problem with the delta variant. They are not mutually exclusive.

Thanks for stopping by, tho

I don't recall any comment when his fuhrer made that deal with the Taliban over a year ago, leading to a major increase in Taliban activity and strength, which has directly led to this.

Sad!

The leader of the Taliban is a guy Trump negotiated to be let out of prison (along with 5000 others)

The media is both siding this and now we see the GQP deleting old tweets, press releases, etc claiming a victory for Trump setting this withdrawal up.

It does appear to be a cluster getting these people out of there, and I’m not sure if this is a failure of the admin or if Afghanistan has been royally fucked for so long that this was the best we could do.

We spent 20 years, lost thousands of troops, as well as civilian lives, spent billions of $$$ to prop up their government and military

And they fold in 20 mins

I'd say it is a failure of the Biden administration. Clearly weren't enough preparations in place. To see all those people running to planes and trying to get on them is beyond awful.

That said, for Republicans to spin this politically is a joke. Who got us into that mess? And didn't Trump say that the Taliban was on the run and fleeing Afghanistan? I recall that he said that. Clearly they weren't and didn't.

This mess was going on before Trump. Let’s not forget that.

There will be dire consequences for women in Afghanistan. Wish more people cared about that.

I just can't even imagine being a woman there now.

There is more than enough blame to go around but we all knew this was going to happen. I just don’t think we knew it was going to happen over the course of a weekend.

I’ve no idea what can be done other than to volunteer to help resettle Afghan refugees if you can.

The Taliban have to be just about the worst people on the planet.

It’s so awful I can’t even bear to watch.

Sounds awful, cynical, and maybe even ignorant to say, but when it comes to the Taliban and that region as a whole, I just don't know that there are any "winning" solutions. And if there are, we sure haven't seen any in my lifetime.

I think was doomed when it turned into "nation building", and because it took so long to get Bin Laden.

All of our dead and wounded (physically and psychologically) for life troops, all the dead and forever damaged Afghan civilians.

Biden is right to want us out of there. I just watched his explanation for what went wrong, it wasn't very credible. It is nice to have a President who says the buck stops with him. As opposed to one who never took responsibility for anything.

We should have gone in, killed or captured OBL, and gotten out … but there were people, who I remember even on this forum, who thought that Afghanistan and Iraq were yearning to be New Jersey, all they needed was a little help.

This is a multifaceted disaster with plenty of blame to be handed out to every president from Bush to Biden.

The mess in Iraq was not Obama's fault. But his rush to try and clean up and get out led to the development of ISIS.

Biden is repeating the mistake here.

The mess may not have been your creation, but you make it yours when you fuck up the clean up.

You can’t compare ISIS with the Taliban. That’s a strong oversight of the authority and legitimacy of the Taliban. They’re not a band of marauders. They’ve existed for a long ass time.

This is sad that it has played out this way, but it’s evidence of failure of American occupation.
