Trump is going the blame the last four years on the Biden administration and the media will frame it as a time to change things up. Let’s give an outsider a chance to drain the swamp.

There is nothing Trump can do that will affect him or his polling. He could come out and just say the N word over and over and nothing would change.

Biden stutters and it’s OMG HIS BRAIN FAILED?? Is he healthy enough to do the job ??

Man. Person. Debate. Stupid.
You are right, nothing seems to effect Teflon don! I mean look he is practically bragging about breaking the law with the mail in ballots and no one gives a shit. He practically gets away with pretty much everything.

thinking one guy would be a better president than another is totally fine.

acting like he's a living saint every time he spends a penny and mocking those of us who want to hold him accountable to what he actually promised like we're idiotic children is entirely another thing.

edit: look, i'm not trying to gloat about this or say "i told you so". i actually want to be wrong about this. but i'm naturally skeptical and cynical, a "i'll believe it when i see it" type of person. if he spends that money between now and the election then that's fantastic and i'll happily admit i was wrong. but i know full well that nobody gets to be a multi-billionaire because they were generous with their money. i don't trust any billionaire to actually do what they say because they know that nobody will (or can) hold them accountable if they welch or cheap out.

i guess the friction in this scenario comes from that - some people here trust this guy to do what he says (fair enough, that's your prerogative), whereas i feel that when it comes to money he inherently can't be trusted and i don't expect that he's going to follow through because it's not in the nature of people with more money than scrooge mcduck to give it away. like in the example i gave, if your friend promises they're going to give you a large amount of money and then they only give you a fraction of that even though they have way more than enough to give you the original amount, you'd feel stiffed no matter how close you are. for me the equation is the same in this case; you promised to spend x amount of cash so spend x amount of cash. "keep your promises" is basic shit that we were all taught at the age of 4 and i don't think it's totally unreasonable to expect that.

I get that, all that is fine, I just don’t think Bernie needed to come up.

Fwiw, I’m kind of agnostic on Bloomberg as a candidate, but I do hope he does do everything he promised.

But he also never gets any more popular. What’s been keeping him outbid jail has been the Republican Senators and the flunkies/“acting directors” and his and Barr’s total and utter shamelessness, which is enabled by a population willing to literally forgive him of anything.

He also knows that when he loses, the law is coming. He’ll pardon himself for federal stuff, but Cy Vance has the goods.

Which will make him that much more dangerous and crazy. So we have good reason to be terrified!

No, Trump won’t go up in popularity at this point. He’s low enough where he has to cheat to have a chance. Biden is going to destroy him in popular vote. And probably in the EC, if mail votes are counted.

What’s been playing in my head is how do we move forward as a country ? I don’t see how we can be united ever again.

If Trump holds on to office, half the country will claim its rigged (and 99% chance it’s true) and Blue states wont follow federal law that hurts people

If Biden wins, half the country will claim its rigged (and be wrong) and Red states won’t follow any federal law because its a deep state bullshit.

The sooner we find a way to split this nation up into different countries the better off we will be. The direction we are going only points to this outcome.

The past is the past but for all those who sat out 2016, or voted 3rd party, or even voted for Trump because Clinton wasn’t exactly what you wanted (medicare for all) now have to realize you’ll never seen universal healthcare in your lifetime or even ever.

ACA is dead. 120 million pre existing conditions. You can add another seven million to that with covid.

Good posts here. I'll try to summarize a bit.

I think that when Biden was getting beat in the early primaries, Dems do what they do, they freak out, especially when beating Trump really was and still is the overriding focus of the day. And they saw Bloomberg as sort of an alternative. Not so much because of Bernie's policy stance. But didn't know if he would have the best chance of beating Trump.

I think Bernie would have done fine going up against Trump. He has midwest strength, and also has a strong unshakable base like Trump. He definitely had less possible paths to victory than Biden, since FL would have been out of the cards entirely for him. The socialist/communist smear from Trump would have been more effective against him, but Bernie also is a fighter and more of an unorthodox opponent that would have served him well.

That said, Bloomberg looked to some like a candidate that could take it to Trump on almost every level, with unlimited cash and lots of crossover appeal. But the Floyd protests this summer would have been really bad news for him. I don't think he would fare well in the midwest, although I think he would win FL, so his paths were also very limited.

Bloomberg said he would spend anything to defeat Trump. Throwing out a billion dollar number. We haven't seen that. That's disappointing, because hell. we only have one shot here. But he has thrown in 140 million, and raised money to pay for 32,000 ex felon fines. And we should be happy about that, cause he could have done nothing. I hope to see a little more from him. Even if it's blanketing PA with ads on how to properly do mail in voting or something. We shall see.

The ACA may not be totally dead. If Biden wins, changes can be made that could circumvent the current challenges. But of course, new bullshit challenges will arise, and the only way to keep it, and many other things from being completely destroyed is expanding the court. I for one think we will see M4A in our lifetimes. It's inevitable. I may be wrong. I hope not.

As for the country after Trump. Who knows. I personally think that there are gonna be SO many Republicans in DC, that will be thrilled that he's gone. It will be like escaping from an abusive relationship.
But it will take time for the 36% of the country to be deprogrammed from the cult. And it may never happen, because I think it's very likely someone like Don Jr. could lead a fairly real third party of conspiracy theorists in the years ahead. Splitting the Rep party as we know it. If Trump continues to do rallies and starts Trump TV with all his crazy shit. Then I don't see how you don't get a full on 30% of the electorate splitting from "traditional conservatives" who now number maybe a million people, because whatever they once stood for has been completely shit on and discarded because of Trump.
And not to like you need any other scary news, But Ol' Donnie Sr. could run again in 2024. Just sayin.

There is no Republican Party of which you speak of. They are the cult of Trump.

Democrats better not extend any olive branch to them if they take over congress and White House.

What they have done to this country, and specifically to the most vulnerable is criminal and they should be treated as such.

What they morph into cannot be allowed to reach power again

Some very interesting polling this morning

National
ABC/WAPO - Biden +10

Sienna/NYT - Biden +8 (They said they had a shift from their last poll of party of ID of 10 point toward Republicans. Was D+1 back in July and now R+9. July poll was Biden +13, so a 5 point shift on the poll after a 10 point party ID shift - interesting stuff, but may also show that the party ID on this poll is a little out of whack)

State polls:
Yougov -
NC - Biden +2

Marist -
WI - Biden +10
MI - Biden +8

And a new poll from Cornell Belchers group

SC - Harrison 45, Graham - 43

Just as a side note. 538 currently has Biden at +7.3 nationally. Not sure if their model has updated for these 2 new polls this morning. But the average of polls for Biden over the past week is +8.2.
I took out Rasmussen because its about 6-10 points off of every of other poll and they are actually quite vocal about their support for Trump and finding "shy Trump voters" for their polls.

Trump constantly accusing Biden of being on drugs is just his usual pattern of narcissistic projection.

It pretty much solidifies that Trump is taking drugs. And it also is the same strategy he does with everything, including mail in voting. Make a claim that sets it up, so that if Biden kills him in the debate, it was the drugs that made it happen.
Mail in ballots are fraudulent, so if I lose big, it's not because of me, its the mail ins...

same pathetic, and very transparent game.

Which brings up another good and NOT a gotcha question that needs to be asked at the debate.

Mr. Trump. You continually say that mail in ballots are rife with fraud. Can you name any study of voter fraud in the last 20 years that has shown this to be the case? And also, why is your campaign, including Laura Trump and Kimberly Gilfoyle (sp?) promoting and encouraging mail in voting on robocalls to your voters if mail in voting is indeed fraudulent?

I don't think this is necessarily true. You do have somewhat standard republicans (senators and congresspeople) that hate Trump. But they also want to keep their jobs and power. So they spinelessly and pathetically go along with what they have to, in order to get through a primary, and then a general.
These same people will cheer Trump's demise and will just as willingly go along with a Romney or a Cotton/Pompeo , Whatever works to keep them alive.

So there is a "republican party", it just has become one with absolutely ZERO actual core beliefs or platform. Like a long time GOP insider said - It has become a party that is just there to attack the media and own the libs. period.

And like I said before. I do think you have a small faction of actual "conservatives" that are out there. Rick Wilson, Steve Schmidt, Michael Steel types. And they are now homeless. I think it will be a battle next cycle between the two types on the right, - Conspiracy theory nutjob, white nationalist party, and the more traditional conservative group. At this point the nutjobs have it. It remains to be seen if the old reps move to the Dems, or if they split off.

Good to see. Looks like Joe is betting the Bloombergs money will be doing the work for him in FL. I also think that Harris just needs to rent a house somewhere out in the middle of nowhere in FL around Avon Park, so she can continually travel to Tampa/St. Pete - Orlando - South FL.

NYTimes got trumps taxes.

Not really surprising. The dude is strapped for cash

He was paying Melania consulting fees, then writing them off on his taxes.

Hey Trump fools, you're paying more in taxes than he does. And he's laughing at you.

They don’t care. He’s a brilliant businessman taking advantage of a tax code written by socialist democrats.

Federal income taxes paid in 2017 (jointly with spouse):

Joe Biden - $3,742,974
Kamala Harris - $516,469
Bernie Sanders - $343,882
Elizabeth Warren - $268,484

Donald Trump - $750

It kind of angers me that all of those democrats all have incomes large enough such that the amount of taxes they pay are multiple times the amount most Americans make in a year.

But let’s not lose sight of the billionaire who contributes absolutely nothing.
