so ... looks like the main goal was achieved: Trump will be a one term president.
the first two years will be stupid and useless, like the federal government has become. expect them to rush as many SCOTUS cases while they can. for those of us who dreamed of taking some time off politics because there was a D trifecta, we can't do that. also, redistricting will not go as we might have hoped. i remained astonished not just at Trump's hold over rural voters, but that there is literally nothing that can be done to move nonvoters to vote -- if a global pandemic, preexisting conditions, and a looming autocrat weren't enough, there's literally no policy that will convince them to vote. people vote their identity, and we need a great storyteller (Obama, B Clinton) who can tell them that story so that they vote for that story.
i take heart at the thought that there's no one else like Trump, so it's not like Tom Cotton is going to pull these numbers out of counties in Florida in 2024. and the 2022 Senate map looks bad for the GOP. and there are still two more seats in GA that will have to be decided.
the Democrats finally do have rising stars, and it is time for Pelosi, Feinstein, etc., to exit gracefully.
Latinos are not a monolith. most folks would never think of themselves as Latinx. academia needs to take a step back. Trump got more nonwhite support than any GOP candidate in 60 years. there isn't a unified national story like there exits for African-Americans. populations have to be understood and spoken to where they're at by people in their communities.
knocking on doors works.
major inroads were made in GA, TX, and NC ... but demographics isn't quite the destiny everyone thought it was 10 years ago.
this is what happens when "ethnic" whites vote like a minority.
"socialism" is still terrifying to anyone over the age of 40.
real life is now online.
