so ... looks like the main goal was achieved: Trump will be a one term president.

the first two years will be stupid and useless, like the federal government has become. expect them to rush as many SCOTUS cases while they can. for those of us who dreamed of taking some time off politics because there was a D trifecta, we can't do that. also, redistricting will not go as we might have hoped. i remained astonished not just at Trump's hold over rural voters, but that there is literally nothing that can be done to move nonvoters to vote -- if a global pandemic, preexisting conditions, and a looming autocrat weren't enough, there's literally no policy that will convince them to vote. people vote their identity, and we need a great storyteller (Obama, B Clinton) who can tell them that story so that they vote for that story.

i take heart at the thought that there's no one else like Trump, so it's not like Tom Cotton is going to pull these numbers out of counties in Florida in 2024. and the 2022 Senate map looks bad for the GOP. and there are still two more seats in GA that will have to be decided.

the Democrats finally do have rising stars, and it is time for Pelosi, Feinstein, etc., to exit gracefully.

Latinos are not a monolith. most folks would never think of themselves as Latinx. academia needs to take a step back. Trump got more nonwhite support than any GOP candidate in 60 years. there isn't a unified national story like there exits for African-Americans. populations have to be understood and spoken to where they're at by people in their communities.

knocking on doors works.

major inroads were made in GA, TX, and NC ... but demographics isn't quite the destiny everyone thought it was 10 years ago.

this is what happens when "ethnic" whites vote like a minority.

"socialism" is still terrifying to anyone over the age of 40.

real life is now online.

I think demographics is destiny still applies, you just need one more cycle in NC/GA (maybe) and two or more in Texas.

youth, maybe. i also wonder if another GOP candidate will repulse the suburbs like Trump did. but how do we explain the Latino turnout in south Texas totally collapsing?

other than maybe shenanigans.

Trump activated a far-right, white fringe who weren't voting before.

how do the Democrats do the same? or does that fringe even exist? (my sense is that it doesn't in any meaningful way).

no, the answer is not M4A.

you had i'll go crazy if we don't get georgia tonight sitting right there and YOU BLEW IT

Is there a reason that AZ and NV can't just count the fucking ballots!

Also, are all the remaining votes in AZ from Maricopa or are there any still from Pima?

I like your storyteller theme

quite disappointed we did't get the Senate, but get drump out IS the key goal! Buh-Byeeee Barr, at least, too. And all he other hideous cabinet members - like DeVos!

As a 67 yr old with a Cuba-fled best bud back in '66 with our "better dead than Red" slogans I learned over time that Socialism didn't always equal Communism. Then later in my late 30's paid more attention to socialism in Europe, then especially Nordic Democratic Socialism.
So I definitely evolved.

Latinx people do identify with their counties of origins esp newer generations of immigrants.
Someone pointed out that probably more of the South Americans would be more reactive to "socialism" (along w older Cubans).

Yes demographics is destiny will take a little longer.

Finally drumph is a rather unique mix of personality, and circumstances... no repuglican could quite pull off the same crap.

one great thing about biden becoming the president is that i hopefully will never have to hear or read the word "drumph" ever again.

don't get me wrong. i'd love more Nordic Socialism. i think it would help the people who claim to hate it the most.

but it clearly, CLEARLY doesn't work politically. it motivates the right.
