Being a strong constitutional conservative, I am all for Trump having to answer for abuse of power and/or colluding with a foreign power. That's exactly how our Federal Republic should work.

Weird that you guys weren't saying the same thing when Obama was giving pallets of cash to Iran, speaking to a Russian official about "more flexibility after the election", and overseeing the wiretapping of a competitor's presidential campaign based on info paid for by the DNC, but I know, that's the past.

I very rarely if ever mention Trump, I discuss policy, liberty and the Constitution. May the process play out the way that it should.

lol ohhhhhhhhhhhh you, equating a negotiation on the nuclear deal to the president holding back cash for his own personal political gain. such a silly goose.

and please - show the evidence of the wiretaps being Obama getting dirt in his rivals vs, oh I dunno, a (still) ongoing intelligence operation into foreign influence in our elections. I'll happily send ol' Barry to jail if you can show some sort of proof that didn't come from InfoWars or Hannity.

but anyways, here's your guy saying he wants to kill whistleblowers. You know, like in the old days

ooooo right. He's not "your guy." You're just a good conservative Christian values voter. Which is why you support a racist porn star fucker who's arranged for more abortions than spray tans.

hey dipshit, you weren't even a member of the forum when any of this happened so you'd have absolutely no idea whether or not we were "saying the same thing" then, but don't let that stop you from desperately whatabouting in a transparent attempt to change the subject, mister "not a fan".

First there were no "pallets of cash" that was in fact a fake photo/video posted on right wing sites. Second, that money was part of the nuclear deal, approved by six countries and the European Union, gave Iran access to its own frozen assets.
The deal that Iran was complying with and destroying its nuclear stashes and reactors. until... wait for it... Trump backed out and they went back to it.

Somehow conflating Obama saying "more flexibility after the election" to working hand in hand with Russia, meeting almost 200 times with them during the campaign, sharing polliing data, and then once in office siding with Russia and working for their interests over the US interests are about as wildly ludicrous as you can get.

And the wiretapping again was a false story spouted out by Trump that was never backed up by fact, and he admitted he based it "on a hunch"

You come out of your hole for this?

Yay, and on the 3rd day of the scandal gzus was risen... and spewed forth right wing media conspiracy theory taking points out of his pie hole.

Looking for some opinions on this - I've just been reading a few things that Krystal Ball has written recently - for those who don't know, she is a former MSNBC host of The Cycle and current writer/tv host for The Hill who is a Bernie supporter - and I'm having trouble agreeing with her 100% even though I know where she's coming from. I read two articles, and they basically boil down this(I will provide links to full materials as well)...

1. MSNBC/CNN is spending too much time, and with too much intensity, covering everything russia/mueller/ukraine/impeachment-related and not enough time covering actual issues like healthcare, climate change, etc., essentially building up expectations that can't be met while ignoring big issues that people actually care about.

Krystal Ball: Impeachment inquiry shows ‘hallmarks of the overpromise, underdeliver strategy’

https://www.youtube.com/watch/XuYO7OIYB2c

2. It seems like a good possibility Warren could end up being the nominee and that that would result in a loss in November 2020 because Warren appeals to college-educated people(specifically Ivy League) and white people(she refers to this as the 'Rachel Maddow vote') and struggles to appeal to working-class types and people of color(hence she supports Bernie). She also refers to Warren as a 'faux-progressive' and criticizes her for saying she'd take corporate donations in the general election and for reportedly being in communication with Hillary Clinton.

Krystal Ball: Democrats on track to nominate Warren, lose to Trump

So I get the gist of her arguments, but it's hard for me to think covering potential impeachable offenses by the POTUS is a bad thing, and her position on Warren seems pretty transparently like a pro-Bernie argument.

Any thoughts?

Yep this Gzus dude is indeed a freak! How many times do we have to tell trump supporters that the money given to Iran was theirs to begin? It’s like they simply can’t register that very important fact even if you tell them 1000 times!

Boy, it sure would be nice to have a conversation about Trump with a Trump supporter without them having to bring up Obama/Hillary and so forth in the process.

where the president's personal attorney says publicly that he wasn't acting as an attorney in this case, thus removing any claims of privilege.

I missed this post earlier. Holy shit, he is delusional.

And this was supposedly the guy who was all about law and order when he ran New York City, eh?

New Yorkers didn't like Giuliani or Trump. We really should listen to them more often.

God willing they'll go for it if it comes to that. I could definitely see them feeling more emboldened if support for impeachment rises among voters, too. The more stuff that comes out, the harder it's going to be for anyone except the most diehard of Trump voters to argue that impeachment shouldn't happen.

"Stage of grief." I like that description. I still can't understand how the guy thinks Trump's policies are agreeable, setting aside everything else, but yeah, I think it's gonna be a long process for Trump supporters to distance themselves from the guy and admit regret and defeat. It's like getting out of a cult. It takes a while to deprogram.

Keep in mind, too, that some of those comments could also be bots. Or people just stirring shit because that's just how internet comment sections roll :p.

That is very true! Just look at trump’s twitter feed replies, tons of bots there too.

I have a friend who is a Republican that tolerates Trump because he agrees with his policies. He told me today that he doesn't think the items in the report are ethical, but that they're not impeachable either, but mostly he just wants it to all go away and he said he's deleting his Twitter account and it going to watch more sports than the news.

This is actually fantastic news.

Trump is a reality tv star, not a politician, nevermind a president. He rose to political prominence because he said outrageous things 24/7 and the networks covered every one of his media stunts, rants and insane rallies.

What you are describing is exactly what my husband is hearing from his clients (think Mitt Romney/country club Republicans). That ok, they got the tax cut but now they are sick of him creating chaos in the markets and never want to see his ugly mug on tv again. They are exhausted of him. And that is what your friend is experiencing again - just total overload.

When Trump loses his TV appeal (gross as it is), he's cooked.

The fuck is wrong with the New York Times? Hey we won’t give the name of the WB, but we’ll expose enough info that someone can figure it out

It's a paper that employs the likes of Bret Stephens and Bari Weiss, don't expect any goodness from it.

I could also see Trump supporters starting to pull away from him out of sheer embarrassment over just how much he fucked up this whole Ukraine thing. They saw him as this strong, tough leader who stood up to all the "libs" and who didn't apologize for what he said and all that sort of thing, and up to now he'd managed to skate by and dodge every controversy and scandal that came his way.

But now, he's blundered this latest thing up so badly, to the point where he is in legitimate, serious trouble for the first time in probably his entire life. He can't even claim denial or ignorance or whatever this time around in an attempt to squeak by, either, because he's openly acknowledged that he was involved. He got too cocky. "I got away with these crimes before, so hell, I'll just say I did it this time, not like anybody can touch me."

And you see him in interviews these last few days and there's very little, if any, of his typical bravado and fight. It's just desperate flailing or trying to shift blame-and sure, he's done that in the past, but now he's not just yelling at the Democrats. Now he's openly throwing people within his own party under the bus. He now looks weak and vulnerable. That's not a good thing at all in his supporters' eyes.

Lol just took a peak at one of my ex friends Facebook who I’ve had a huge fight over trump and he is having a Giuliani style meltdown. It’s actually kind of funny to see the things he writes and how trump is perfect and Biden is the crook and the whole world is after poor trump the victim. I would troll his post but last time I did that, I actually got a lot of hate mail from his crazy trump supporter fans. So sadly there are still people out there that despite all that has happened still think trump is the second coming! I am happy to have gotten rid of a lot of my trump supporter “friends” on Facebook. I don’t have to constantly see their conspiracy theories and how trump is a poor victim that has done nothing wrong!

where the president of the united states threatens the lives of whistle blowers to a room full of career diplomats.
I must say even for me that was pretty unbelievable.
OTOH there was the "shoot a guy on fifth ave" boast. Which hasn't been that much of a boast. :( And it certainty rings as goonish behavior.

I've been wondering what they're thinking about all this, and I'm not going to lie, if we must suffer through this shit, I'm having great fun sitting here being all, "I TOLD YOU SO". Whatever else happens going forward, I sincerely hope every Trump supporter has to live with the shame and disgrace of voting for this asshole, and I hope this has significant, long-lasting negative consequences for the GOP as a party going forward, too. Fuck these guys.

Oh, yeah, I know it's not likely at all. Just a really, really lovely little fantasy to think about. But ooh, yes, Trump turning on McConnell would be fascinating for a whole host of reasons.

Those Twitter links people are sharing are unreal. And if Trump's out here threatening people openly, I say we should just forgo the trial and throw him out right now, and make sure there are people standing by with cuffs ready to take him away.

 this is the end of the trump/Repuglican Party for good, or at least 3 generations! Some form of some of them will emerge at some point- hopefully at least 3 generations and maybe not enough of them to
be effective for several generations beyond! Maybe even by then
more people will have become more empathetic/compassionate, less rascist, less sexist, more ecumenical and immigrant friendly again that they truly will no longer have impact at a national level!

And hopefully we won't be living in Waterworld, either!

Interesting... :hmm:

Even so, 2/3 of the Senate would need to vote against Trump.

In all seriousness, what is the chance of that? Is there a threshold by which the findings against Trump can be so bad that the numbers in the Senate will turn against him? Or will he, as a Republican, have enough rusted on support that he'll survive?

Bold of him to assume that even Melania would want to see the aforementioned nude photos of Trump.

It seems highly unlikely - but it appeared highly unlikely that Nixon would be removed until the hearings began and the tide began to turn.

Every network, not just 24 hour news, covered today's hearing. Support for impeachment is already up in the mid 40s. If the polling gets to a point where it looks like 2020 is a complete lost cause, you'll see Republicans start to jump ship like it hit a giant orange iceberg.

From Poltitco

Among Democratic voters, support for impeachment proceedings has increased 13 points, from 66 percent in the previous poll, to 79 percent now.

But, according to Morning Consult vice president Tyler Sinclair, support has also ticked up among other voters.

“As more information has emerged about whistleblower allegations against President Trump, support for impeachment proceedings has grown to its highest point since the beginning of the summer,” Sinclair said. “This week’s news cycle had a significant impact on Republicans and independents, giving credibility to Democrats' impeachment inquiry. Up from 5 percent last week, 10 percent of Republicans now support beginning impeachment proceedings, while support among independents has reached 39 percent.”

They will support Trump. Until they don't (i.e. their voters support impeachment as well). Then they try to drop him as fast as they can.
I hear it was the same with Nixon. He had broad support from Republicans, Until, in his final days, he suddenly did not have their support anymore.

Edit: Yeah, what Headache said half an hour ago. :)

*Reads the Politico quote Headache posted about support for impeachment slowly rising*

Eeeeeeeeeeexcellent...*Rubs hands*

Lol really??? Not even SNL could come up with a sketch like that! Ok maybe they could.

If they do, I hope they spare us the potential visuals :crack:.

But yeah, they showed a clip of Nunes saying that very thing on TV last night. Whatever drugs he's on, I'd like him to share 'em.

The Dems don’t plan on holding many hearings, if any.

Only Ukraine will be the focus, so those 10 examples of Obstruction in the Mueller Report, plus about 50 other major violations will be forgotten.

Dems better hope the next time they get in they’re person doesn’t sneeze or GOP will impeach for that

I don’t think that this is necessarily bad. You don’t want to drag this out over a whole year and have the public lose sight of what is important.

Lol Donald Trump is resurrecting the circa-2011 usage of the word “lamestream” and stealing it from elitist music hipsters.
