I've typed and deleted this response multiple times because it comes off dickish, and I'm trying to have it not come off dickish... but alas... I'm not a fan of Pelosi and felt new blood was needed, but is the suggestion that her not agreeing with "the squad" on how far left policy should be makes her complicit in Trump going full Klan on "the squad" over the past week? Or did I miss something else here?

Again not trying to be dickish, and I may have missed something since I'm very much out of the loop right now on many things...

What was said was totally meaningless. I couldn’t even get “if an armed Trump nut kills Omar its Nancy’s fault” from the post, although it was pretty close.

So I ignored it. Because, again, it was meaningless.

Oh, he was pretty dumb.

But he had some charm to him and enough understanding of decorum to overcome that, to an extent anyway.

Her condemning Omar as an anti-semite is what makes her complicit.

One of Trump's key justifications is that Omar is anti-Semitic, which Pelosi already conceded to Trump. She aired the dirty laundry about how the four young congresswomen don't know their place by whining to the press. She's had the DNC lined up against the four of them. They leaked polling data (a completely rigged, anonymous poll of what amounts to Trump voters) to say they were unpopular in an effort to sway things back from the left, which Trump himself cited before he started rallying up the battle cries this week. And they've had the House Dems Twitter account lead a call to have AOC's CoS fired.

Pelosi has contributed significantly to the danger those four are now in, Omar most of all. That's not really even disputable.

We are comparing Donald Trump, who is actually dumb, to George W. Bush, who was generally just sounding dumb and making bad decisions. Bush’s capacity was significantly higher than Trump’s. Bush would talk about things with his foot in his mouth but Donald Trump would have to have it filtered into 2nd grader logic.

From a statesman perspective, the main differences are that Bush grew up in politics and knew how to play the game, whereas Trump grew up making deals with mobsters and trying to get in the newspaper, and knows that very different game. Also Trump is older and in the early to mid-stages of dementia.

I honestly think that he's unwell. I mean, yes, he's also stupid + has an enormous amount of hubris, but he absolutely sounds very different in his interviews from 20, 30 years ago. His diction, the pacing of his speech, the coherence of responses. If he was an elderly relative, you'd get him a cognitive evaluation asap.

I know what you’re saying, but I think this is quite common in people his age. Not sure he needs an evaluation. Just think he needs to not be president.

For the record from my earlier evaluation of Trump v. Bush, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — Bush is probably the better guy, but as president, he has a tremendous amount of blood on his hands. Cruelly, hundreds of thousands of people. I’d prefer to endure Trump over that, any time. That’s the major defining difference between their disastrous presidencies. Trump hasn’t been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.

Setting aside the objectively problematic nature of some of Omar’s tweets, and the need for the D’s not to let non-Jews (like the Republican Party) wield anti anti-Semitism to defend their racism, which is what Pelosi was doing, and the fact That, yes, it is possible for members of the same party to disagree with each other, nothing above has anything to do with the meaningless “centrism/fascism” formulation of your earlier post.

You’re essentially victim blaming. Nancy Pelosi didn’t start those chants; Nancy Pelosi didn’t wildly and grossly distort Omar’s record; and Nancy Pelosi isn’t spearheading a political strategy that’s attempting to tie the Squad to the face of the Democratic Party in order to win an election via racism.

Hold the actual racists accountable. Don’t distort.

And also understand *why* these four women are part if Trump’s re-election strategy.

I had 3 grandparents to make it to fairly old age (80-90). One of them had Alzheimer's, the other two died of other natural causes. Yes, there is a marked decline in cognitive ability as you age, but there is a pretty clear difference between typical and atypical ageing. I don't think Trump exhibits the behaviour of somebody with Alzheimer's but I think his decline is beyond the typical for his age. You have to remember that he is extremely coddled which allows for the true extent of his mental disability to be mitigated or hidden. For example, he does not need to keep his own schedule, or perform tasks such as cooking, laundry, shopping, paying bills, he does not drive anywhere himself nor is he reliant on public transit. Everything is done for this man. If it were not so, he'd be in massive trouble.

Victim blaming? How in the fuck is Nancy Pelosi the fucking victim here?

She’s not a victim. She’s a bystander, and it’s her choice to do something or not do something.

In politics, if you’re a bystander and you do nothing, you’re complicit.

Exactly. Pelosi has made an entire career out of hemming and hawing her way around important things, solely so she could duck out of criticism. For far too long people have been happy to buy her bullshit. Fuck that.

And if we're being honest, Pelosi is more threatened by people on the left than by people on the right. At least when people on the right are rising in power, she can keep her seat, her power, her influence, and her money. It's only the left that could threaten that.

Because it riles up the racists. And there's value in that from an electoral strategy, albeit value that also creates a backlash.

The reason *why* it WOULD work would be if the Dems threw them under the bus and uncomfortable with the popular policies they held, and decided that they need to run away from them at every opportunity and support shittier policies that won't get people out to the polls.

I mean...

They've made the focus about these four people, all because those four people were starting to shine a light on the fact that the establishment, centrist Dems are against many of the interests of the people they claim as constituents.

“The squad” are part of Trump’s strategy because narrative is narrative and if the media says this is a potential strategy, it is a strategy. It’s not what people believe, but what people consume. Trump knows this much. He makes the branded “squad” his target because his fox machine has set the stage for him. They’ve put the telescopes on the totally irrelevant-to-the-election squad and made the election about “if Trump defeats the millennial socialist invader-immigrants that threaten your way of life he wins.” People who aren’t even in charge. Trump has to defeat a lesser opponent and Nancy is stuck in the middle of it.

Her desire to compromise is what she doesn’t get still. We don’t live in a time of compromise. Theresa May had the same dumb idea on her way out the door. This week. The democrats look weak because Pelosi isn’t playing the new game. Weakness/stuttering/playing on the defensive doesn’t work.

Agree.

There’s no coming together. Let there be the states who want what the American idea to live on

And the rest become the United States of QAnon

you guys know the red states are the ones with all the nuclear missile silos, right?

Except all the scientists who develop, maintain, and operate them (as well as possessing many of them from time to time) are in California and New Mexico.

And then gazillions are in Europe and Asia.

Not so sure it’s dat simple D

We're so fucked.

Just break this shit hole up into little pieces.
