Not that I think Avenatti is qualified, but does anyone think Trump is more qualified to be President than he is? On what basis? I honestly think Oprah is just as qualified as Trump too. Not kidding. Both famous and wealthy and ego driven. Oprah was not born with a silver spoon either, she worked for what she had. And I would say she has more dignity and class and humility than Trump does. Of course that's not exactly difficult for anyone to accomplish.

Oh yeah, Oprah didn't go to Wharton. She went to Tennessee State on a full earned scholarship.

I don't care. I don't want more celebrities or non-politicians running for president.

It's not a fucking entry-level job.

.

Oprah may be more humble and came from absolutely nothing. But she still has an ego, and I believe to be that successful and not have a big ego would be near impossible.

Oprah gave us Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz. That should be disqualifying in and of itself.

I agree. That can be used to against her.

Absolutely.

Agreed. I want the role of the presidency to be taken seriously again.

ABSOLUTELY. I do too. Trump has thrown a million gutter balls against that and I'm afraid we will never go back. Obviously I wouldn't vote for Oprah. It's just a hypothetical discussion. It's like asking Trump supporters why he's so qualified and so Teflon. It signifies nothing, unfortunately. Remember when some people talked about how unqualified Obama was? Community organizer.

No cooperation deal. Straight plea deal.

For the record, and I’m no lawyer, I think cooperation entails divulging information and testifying. A straight plea deal could entail enough information that’s still considered evidence.

For example, if Cohen were to plead guilty as part of his deal to paying off Stormy Daniels, but part of his deal was to admit that it was on behalf of the president/with knowledge of the president, does this constitute cooperation?

Dunno.

So someone like Michael Avenatti is somewhat interesting to me. He does appear to have an ego, especially with all the coverage he generated.

He at least is a lawyer, and seems to be competent.
He also is out doing the work, regardless if it's to promote his own brand or not, he is making a difference. Especially in regards to the child separation issue.

Trump appears to be terrified of him. He's never tweeted or mentioned him by name to my knowledge.

Michael has been campaigning for the democrats. Something that Bernie never did. His goal has been what most of us have been saying, get the GOP and Trump out.

Now, I would still prefer someone with experience. But I don't know if you can rule him out, especially if he has more successes combating Trump's policies.

Not Avenatti, but I do think it has to be someone out of left field. A rogue type person who will go low not high against Trump. Who that is, well I'm just praying they exist or materialize soon. I wish Cory Booker would run. I wish a qualified woman would run and win.

I mean, I'd hate to just say "you MUST be a politician" - there's no reason a lawyer or even a businessman couldn't do the job with the right education and people he chooses to be around him.

But Trump tho.

There’s no reason a lawyer or a businessman can’t serve a few years in public office at a higher level before running for POTUS.

Even Ronald Fucking Reagan did it.

It's so insane that Cohen and Manafort are happening at the same time. Trump's head must be exploding. Plus Melania wearing the pussy bow blouse and talking about online bullying. Not a good week for Cadet Bone Spurs.

*COHEN SAYS HE VIOLATED CAMPAIGN LAW AT DIRECTION OF CANDIDATE

I can see it now... Trumpsters saying "So what? All politicians violate campaign laws."

But at the same time, if this is the end for Trump (I hope), I find it hilarious that it took a porn star to ruin him. Ha!

Oh, yeah, I have no problem with the hypothetical discussion, if only because I wouldn't rule out Oprah or somebody like her wanting to run someday. And let's be real, at this point, a rock would do a better job running this country than Trump has, so I definitely get the whole "At this point, I'll take ANYONE else" mindset :p. And I can see people thinking that we may need a celebrity to take on, and ultimately take down, a celebrity, too. I would not be surprised if we do follow Trump in 2020 with another celebrity.

And if there's a celebrity out there who actually did study politics at some point in their lives, and had some level of serious political involvement, and showed during the campaign that they were actually learning and listening to and showing respect for the more experienced people around them, I could see people willing to vote for somebody like that. Because at least they've put in the time and work and effort necessary to prove they would take this job seriously, and this isn't just some vanity job for them.

But yeah. Hopefully, at some point, we do get back to the days when our presidential candidates are people for whom this job was their main focus, and not have people running for the office just for the hell of it, and being famous for reasons that have nothing to do with their political experience.

For the record, I do think, were Oprah to run, she would have some good political ideas...but yes. There's a lot of reservations regarding her, too, notably the thing with her promoting questionable doctors and such. That's something we desperately need to put a stop to going forward, having political candidates who push ridiculous conspiracy theories and promote things of questionable worth (like virtually every item Trump's put his name on, for instance). Hell, that's something we need to fix in this country in general. Too many people buying into way too many falsehoods and snake oli BS and whatnot out there.

ETA: Oooooookay, looks like I'm gonna REALLY need to break out the popcorn with all this Cohen/Manafort/Omarosa/tweet stuff going on right now. :corn:

That seems like a big deal. I need to get to the store for some popcorn for tonight's rally.

Also, if any business, politician, celebrity has some bad news to announce, they should probably do it like now.

Oh, I agree. I just always feel like I need a "never say never" disclaimer.

It makes me tear up...I can just hear my Mom's voice saying "he's going to get impeached". She used to say that when anything came out about Trump that made her hopeful for that. Nothing like this obviously.

I miss that so much.

Lol, Fox News right now. They're already off the subject and talking about an illegal immigrant who murdered Mollie Tibbetts, an Iowa college student.

I was lol ING about the way they were talking about the Cohen Manafort stuff. Not that awful murder obviously.

Yeah, I heard about that. Watch Drumpf use that at his rally tonight. Guaranteed.

The President of the United States of America has been named as a coconspirator to a federal crime by his former lawyer while said lawyer plead guilty to said federal crime.

But what will be the next step then? House + Senate will not impeach him (the base will probably think this is no big deal, at least not big enough to warrant impeachment). And can a sitting president be criminally indicted?
