An unexpected decision from Gorsuch, but not entirely surprising given his judicial philosophy. Yet another example of how those who aren't constricted by tribal, partisan lines represent the kind of independent thinkers and honest brokers the country so desperately needs right now.

BTW, this was a case originally brought by the Obama government, who were seeking to deport an immigrant who had been convicted of aggravated felonies that were, in this case, nonetheless non-violent. In this instance Trump was merely continuing the immigration policy of the previous government.

Bit premature for you to conclude he’s not constructed by partisan lines.

I actually don't think any of the Justices are construed by "partisan" lines.

They all have their own judicial philosophy, to be sure, and that philosophy can of course inform how they vote. And whether their originalists, or believe in the "living Constitution" or whatever is often an indication of how they'll come down on an issue. But I don't think any of them vote as Democrats or Republicans, or vote x way because their party expects them to.

Though I admit Bush v. Gore tends to test this assumption, at least in that case.

Newly released documents reveal that the FBI investigated an extortion threat related to a menacing phone call made to bankruptcy attorney Kristopher Hansen on February 18, 2009, wherein a Trump associate using the name “Carmine” threatened Hansen’s wife and children. Redactions within FBI documents initially indicated that the bureau’s extortion investigation was ongoing as of March 9, 2017. However, in an unusual step the FBI backtracked and claimed that the redaction marking was inadvertent.

According to the Holmdel Township Police the threat specifically stated:

“My name is ‘Carmine’ I don’t know why you are fucking with Mr. Trump but if you keep fucking with Mr. Trump, we know where you live and we’re going to your house for your wife and kids.”

he threat came as Donald Trump’s casino business went into bankruptcy and Trump Entertainment Resorts had defaulted on payments owed to investors in excess of $1.25 billion. Kristopher Hansen, whose law firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan represented the investors, received the threatening call on his blackberry from 212-399-5686, a number the FBI later identifies as a pay phone on 54th Street diagonally across from the Ed Sullivan Theater. Donald Trump and his entourage were at the Ed Sullivan Theater that day for a taping of the Tonight Show with David Letterman.

Our.

Our President.

Our President Is.

Our President Is A.

Our President Is A Criminal.

And a dumb one.

Unbelievable what a thug, criminal, not to mention apparently incompetent businessman our president is.

Also, am I the only one who caught this?

Donald Trump and his entourage were at the Ed Sullivan Theater that day for a taping of the Tonight Show with David Letterman.

It was The Late Show with David Letterman. The Tonight Show was his archrival.

I honestly think Trump stopped developing and maturing as a person sometime in the 1980's. He's just stuck there. It's as if the at the time of his peak success he just hit a developmental brick wall.

He even talks like he's still in the 80's. It's just weird.

Barbara Bush on Katrina survivors:
Almost everyone I’ve talked to says, ‘We’re going to move to Houston.’ What I’m hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.

And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this, this is working very well for them.

Embattled attorney Michael Cohen has dropped a pair of much-touted libel suits against BuzzFeed and the private investigation firm Fusion GPS over publication of the so-called dossier detailing alleged ties between President Donald Trump and Russia.

Cohen abandoned the suits late Wednesday as he continues to fight to recover documents and electronic files seized from his home, office and hotel room last week by federal authorities as part of what appears to be a broad criminal investigation into his conduct.

The investigation into President Donald Trump’s personal attorney has reportedly put some of the Republican’s allies on edge, leaving them fearful that Michael Cohen could turn on the president to avoid spending the rest of his days in prison.

Cohen, whose office, home and hotel room were raided last week by the FBI, has long served as Trump’s “fixer,” making apparent problems go away behind the scenes while Trump ran his global real estate empire and later hit the American political stage.

It’s that kind of closeness and access to potential information about Trump’s dealings that have two people close to Trump worried Cohen could flip, according to a Politico report Thursday.

Famed attorney and television pundit Alan Dershowitz said federal prosecutors were likely to threaten Cohen with serious jail time.
