The right is already blaming the left for inciting unprecedented violence (I guess they forgot about Gabby Giffords), literally nobody cares that VA is an open carry state with basically no gun control regulations whatsoever.

To say nothing of the fact how gun sales went up significantly during the Obama administration because the right stoked the flames of "he's going to take away your guns", and the signs with targets on Obama or the "Second Amendment solutions" remarks towards Hillary (made by Trump himself during the campaign, if I recall rightly?). And then of course there's Nugent and his vile remarks, too, and he was invited to the White House...

We have a Commander in Chief who I'm sure will handle this with complete class.

Yeah, I saw a headline talking about him calling for unity. Be interested to see how long he himself holds to that.

Both sides need to watch what the fuck they say. When you talk about taking our country back, or a revolution in a country with more guns than people....over time shit is going to boil over. Not an excuse, but I think we've all sensed that shit like this will become more common.

Completely agreed on this.

Horrifying news to wake up to. From what I saw on TV, it sounds like two of the people who were hit are in critical condition at the moment, so sending good thoughts to them-here's hoping they'll be able to pull through. It sounds like Scalise and two others who were shot are going to be okay, though, thank goodness.

Seriously. It's also sort of ironic, considering the contempt with which Democrats have spoken about the far left lately.

given the drip-drip-drip of the Russia leaks, a little contempt is understandable, no? given what we now know? i mean, just a little?

given that a gay pride parade, of all things, was disrupted by some splinter left wing group called NO JUSTICE NO PRIDE this past weekend, it seems the far left isn't at all interested in compromise and working together. there may be no choice but to work on growing the ranks of the Romney-to-Clinton voters repulsed by Trump.

The political discourse in this country is toxic. Then you add to the fact that we have to hear about it 24/7 and it's going to drive people crazy.

I'm afraid that this shooting is only the beginning. That's what you get when you only have two major parties in this country.

it's almost as if he's had something to hide this whole time. :hmm:

The special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 election is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials said.

The move by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III to investigate Trump’s conduct marks a major turning point in the nearly year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Investigators have also been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates, officials said.

Trump had received private assurances from then-FBI Director James B. Comey starting in January that he was not personally under investigation. Officials say that changed shortly after Comey’s firing.

I could same the exact thing about you.

But if we are tot ale the reactions of Schxahill and Greenwald in regards to Reslity Winner, acceptance of Russian meddling has been reluctant (if not petulant).

What part of my response(s) did you disagree with?

Meh, seemed pretty spot on

Not at all indicative of how we are seeing these things.

depressingly, a guy i know (far-left Melenchon supporter) refused to vote Macron (centrist) in the second round, claiming that he was a financial fascist which, to him (and others it seems), equates to Le Pen style fascism (in his own words) - don't think Melenchon would have approved of that, although i still haven't forgiven him for not publicly supporting the "front republicain" to block Le Pen - he won't have my vote next time round, just because of that, because he refused to make a public stand against the immediate and very dangerous threat of the FN at the time- i will just stick to the socialists i reckon if a decent candidate comes along - really disappointing though!

Fair enough, although I am very worried that Macron's presidency won't necessarily deter FN in the coming years - it might get just as troubling next time around unless the left make serious gains in my opinion.

Seriously. It's also sort of ironic, considering the contempt with which Democrats have spoken about the far left lately. For all their talk of wanting to compromise on everything, they only want to actually compromise with the right.

Oh yeah, without a doubt. It's not exactly surprising, but the vitriol directed towards the left has been incredibly fierce - and you can see it on here sometimes. On a similar note, it is very depressing to see horseshoe theory hot takes from Democrat supporters.

yep, that was pretty much the narrative between the two voting rounds, and Macron is definitely under pressure not to mess up in that respect - the stakes are high... fingers crossed though - already the FN are in disarray with infighting, and did terribly in the first round of the parliamentary elections last weekend, so we'll see... but yes, the socialists definitely need to sort themselves out (Hamon was also wiped out last weekend, and Valls too)

Funny thing is most cops have trouble, getting a shot off in high stress situations and they train for it, yet people think billy badass good guy with gun will be a hero

Hey, ML, "your" guy Steve King partly blamed President Obama for the Virginia shooting. Obama was "divisive".

Because Obama spoke about things that divided us not united us. Like a few professorial statements/speeches with very mild emotions speaking about being a black man in America. :| :| :|

Iowa Rep Steve King u r an asshat! :gah:

Yeah, saw that in our local paper today. Not even remotely surprised, sadly :|. His comments are even more ridiculous considering Trump's call for unity lasted...what, not even a full day? He was back at it ranting about Hillary and the Russian investigation on Twitter today.

But sure. Let's bring up the guy who isn't even president anymore instead. God forbid Trump ever be held accountable by his party for anything he's said to help foster this negative environment.

Hi Moonlit

Turns out both of the cops (Virginia) are black. the irony.

Has anyone mentioned that Pence got an outside lawyer to deal with Russia stuff (daily kos diary).

Seems the Virginia shooter has a serious history of being a domestic violence abuser. Article noted that a serious amount of mass shooters have a history of being dv abusers.
I don't know enough information to say one way or another.

Time Maga
Everyone seems to be getting outside council. Priebus has as well. What we don't know no is whether or not it's because the tin foil types who think everyone from Trump through Paul Ryan is going down, or (more likely) they're just being safe.

I didn't watch Trump's statement (radio, instead), but a friend who did said it looked like he was barely able to contain himself (from going off script) for a even that short a statement.

Yeah, while it is more probable the latter, I think I sure wish it was the former!

Wow, you sure picked some time to move to DC! Enjoy your new have and ?job (or was a transfer).

Yea we certainly picked a boring time to move here...

My wife's job transferred... I ended up getting a job that brought me down here sooner than she had to be down here, so I've been back and forth for a few weeks. I'm down here now for good, my wife and son will move down on June 30
