The Q continuum
1. No more terror alerts; and
2. Greenspan is allowed to give us the bad news:

"Current account deficits, even large ones, have been defused without signigicant consequences, but we cannot become complacent," he wrote in the text of a speech due to be delivered to the G20 conference on Friday evening.

The budget deficit needed urgently to be reduced, he said.

"We hope this will be reflected in the new administration's policies as soon as possible."

Apparently they're going to magically cut it in half even though nobody bothered to ask them how they're going to do it, oh well...

How will they reduce the deficit? This game has gone nuts, since when did Republicans think deficits were OK?

Take a look at the history of deficit spending in this country. It goes back a long way and is not a Republican issue.

yes, but traditionally, Republicans were the party of fiscal sanity who didn't want to spend money on social programs and trusted the free market and individual philanthropy to solve social programs.

since the beginning of his administration, when your individual choices conflict with what the Bush people think is good for you, they are very happy to intervene. the government, Bush clearly believes, has a right to be involved in many personal decisions you make--punishing some, encouraging others and helping public to live the good life as the President understands it. this takes money, you see, and the government can't fully control education (once left up to the states) unless it spends. it can't randomly drug test high schoolers, unless it spends. it can't bust people who grow medicinal marijuana, unless it spends. it can't fund work done by faith-based groups who blend proselytizing with their often important social work, unless it spends. it can't limit the powers states have over their own citizens, unless it spends. it can't invade any country it wants, alone, unless it spends.

Most of the budget defict is due to the economic downturn started at the end of the Clinton administration along with the war on terror. If you want to see what "large" budget deficits and large national debt look like, look back at World War II. After 4 years of war, the national debt was 130% of GNP.

Oh and the United States did not invade Iraq alone and is not currently operating in Iraq alone. The United Kingdom and Australia both participated in the initial invasion and since then, 16 of the 26 member NATO alliance has been involved on the ground in Iraq. Troops from another 15 countries have been involved as well.

Another sign:

Relatives of mine who had spent much energy on their hatred and trashing of Bush or Kerry are now picking on me :sigh: Come back campaign! :scream:

awwwwww U2kitten

i know the feeling. during the campaign i was the one everyone came to for information. now there's this void and if anyone comes to me it's usually to make fun of me.

Signs that the Big Campaign is ooooover!

KERRY stopped his botox treatments to make him look less "gravely". :eyebrow:

"The Addams Family (featuring Lurch)" re-runs take a plunge in t.v. ratings.

Kerry & Botox!

Who cares about Kerry and his Botox?

Saturday Greetings, U-2 Dem (just 9 hours 'til BONO on SNL):

Obviuously, millions were interested in Kerry's facial botox treatments, etc. or it would not have been reported in all media -- print, t.v. and web -- worldwide. Question answered.

Also, I initial-capped "Who", "Kerry", "Botox", "U" and "Democrat" for U (see above in quote line). After all, we do have a lot of visitors to these boards and we don't want to set a bad example of the English language (which includes spelling), especially to foreigners and students . :|

P.S. Besides BONO, let's see what "SNL" offers further in the still unfolding aftermath of the losing KERRY campaign. Watchout for "Weekend Update". :)

Gee, I was trying to instill some spelling on your mind. U may not agree but it's silly to game that U don't understand. Oh, well, "wtf"! :madspit:

do you realize that i'm not the only one on this forum that doesn't type everything perfectly? if so, why pick on me?
Picking? Don't be silly! I'm still gloating -- and relieved -- over the Prez results. ;)

# 1 sign the election is over - Jenna and Barbara are once again stumbling out of bars, looking disheveled

I hope no one pounces on me for that lame attempt at humor :uhoh:

oh, yes, the "international" coalition. let's break that down ...

United States: 150,000
United Kingdom: 8,500
Italy: 3,000
South Korea: 2,800
Poland: 2,400
Ukraine: 1,600
Netherlands: 1,345
Romania: 700
Japan: 550
Denmark: 500
Bulgaria: 480
El Salvador: 380
Australia: 300
Hungary: 300
Mongolia: 173
Azerbaijan: 151
Georgia: 150
Latvia: 133
Portugal: 120
Slovakia: 105
Czech Republic: 90
Lithuania: 90
Albania: 71
Estonia: 45
Kingdom of Tonga: 44
Macedonia: 32
Kazakhstan: 27
Moldova: 12

it's a joke to think that the troop contributions from anyone other than the UK are remotely significant. and let's look at comparative casualties:

US -- 1221
UK -- 74
everyone else -- 72

it's not even close. and the current budget deficit, while you're right about a recession that began post-tech bubble in 2000, Bush's tax cuts, pornographic fam subsidies, and his pandering to the religious right, all of which i mentioned earlier.

here's what i think is really going on. all this new debt, along with a continued push for more tax cuts and more spending increases, points to a deliberate effort by the GOP to bankrupt our government. we also saw Reagan and Bush Sr. cut taxes for the rich and run huge deficits that added over $4 trillion dollars to the total federal debt.

essentially they want to "starve the beast", meaning they want to make it impossible for the government to spend on anything other than it's debt and the military. to take this a step further, the bankrupting of the government would force it to see off its real estate holdings (30% of all land in America), national treasures, and intangible assets for pennies on the dollar.

This thread, or any other thread for that matter, will not be a crash course in grammar or spelling.

If this thread continues in smelling like a bitch-fest, it will be closed down.

Ant.

Interesting tidbit I picked up on www.gawker.com:

Freemans, tuesday night the 16th of nov. the bush twins , along with 2 massive secret service men, tried to have dinner. they were told by the maitre'd that they were full and would be for the next 4 years. upon hearing, the entire restaurant cheered and did a round of shots... it was amazing!!! [Ed: We're hearing that this is actually true.]

Please stop calling people names. People are entitled to their views and their emotions are honest expressions of who they are.
