Hope I'm not repeating something as I miss days at a time at getting online

A bunch of NASA scientists and probably some hackers were able secure away tons of Climate measurements etc that they're rightly afraid Trump & co will delete away...
So yay Team Scientists & helpers! :applaud:

Obviously none of this in the (in all the various areas of USA and World life) orders of magnitude awful, and terrifying stuff should be happening...

Where were all these pissed off Chaffetz constituents when they elected him last time? Did they not know he was a dick?

Yeah I don't know. I certainly didn't vote for him. He's an embarrassment.

Generally, if you have an R next to your name your going to win every time here. Change comes slowly.

Fortunately, even in the most republican county of the most republican state, there are a growing number that are as mortified by Trump as the rest the world.

The LDS community has tended to be more anti-Trump than most generally conservative groups, no? Pretty much all of the Mormons I know (there are a bunch at my company's Texas offices) are conservatives who cannot stand Trump. I would assume that that would give Utah a different dynamic than a lot of other areas.

The real question is what happens to Priebus. Right now he is the only one in Trump's close circle who is an establishment guy (and a way in for Ryan/McConnell) but the rumors all say that he's largely being blamed for the chaos and the leaks. If Trump turfs him, the GOP will start getting really antsy about the only thing that matters to them - tax cuts!

Meanwhile, the Tom Perez will be chair of the DNC. And the Democrats are bewildered that people are protesting their shitty policies/inaction and are ... asking Bernie Sanders to tell people not to criticize them?

In case you were wondering if the Democrats will continue to lose elections, the answer is a resounding "Yes."

Bernie lost by millions of votes to Clinton. He is a social media darling with the youth. That doesn't win elections. In his debate with Cruz, I give Bernie some credit for being honest and saying that small business owners will get the shaft with insurance and min wage increase.

And that's where the devil is, in the details. Bernie and Trump are big on slogans. Trump voters are now realizing hey, you do what you said you would and it's gonna hurt me or hurt lots of people!

Bernie never could explain how he'd fix Wall Street. How he'd fix the economy. He even admitted to not knowing.

I don't think a shift to socialism is the answer for the Dems. They are still the party that a majority of the country lines up with on issues.

They just do not know how to fucking communicate. They need another Obama. Not more big slogans or false prophets.

Just Elect Keith Ellison Already

“Left,” is the correct answer here. The Democratic Party needs to go left. Never in my lifetime has it been clearer that the Democratic Party needs to go left. Even if you are a moderate Democrat, you should, at this point, be able to perceive the fact that the angry, divided nature of our nation right now—justified anger driven by decades of rising inequality and the ongoing collapse of economic opportunity and a political system in which both parties have utterly failed to remedy these things—is crying out for a change from the establishment of the past. The overriding sentiment of the last election was anti-establishment; that sentiment was so strong that it was sufficient to overcome an extremely well-funded Democratic operation staffed with the “smartest” people in politics and elect a man who was, as even many of his supporters could see clearly, a moron. But not a moron of the establishment.

This is a time for radicalism. This is a time for change. Not the “Change” of a standard-issue campaign slogan, but actual change. For the Democrats, that means moving left. Left is the direction away from the Democratic establishment, which just lost a presidential election to one of the biggest clowns in the United States of America. Left is the direction towards the kinds of radical solutions that can make an actual substantive difference in the issues of inequality and political dysfunction that have driven so many voters to the point of “fuck it, burn it all down.” Left is the only rational way for the Democrats to go now. They have tried going to the center for many years now. The result was President Donald Trump.

Here are a few tastes of what was in store for Sanders, straight out of the Republican playbook: He thinks rape is A-OK. In 1972, when he was 31, Sanders wrote a fictitious essay in which he described a woman enjoying being raped by three men. Yes, there is an explanation for it—a long, complicated one, just like the one that would make clear why the Clinton emails story was nonsense. And we all know how well that worked out.

Then there’s the fact that Sanders was on unemployment until his mid-30s, and that he stole electricity from a neighbor after failing to pay his bills, and that he co-sponsored a bill to ship Vermont’s nuclear waste to a poor Hispanic community in Texas, where it could be dumped. You can just see the words “environmental racist” on Republican billboards. And if you can’t, I already did. They were in the Republican opposition research book as a proposal on how to frame the nuclear waste issue.

Also on the list: Sanders violated campaign finance laws, criticized Clinton for supporting the 1994 crime bill that he voted for, and he voted against the Amber Alert system. His pitch for universal health care would have been used against him too, since it was tried in his home state of Vermont and collapsed due to excessive costs. Worst of all, the Republicans also had video of Sanders at a 1985 rally thrown by the leftist Sandinista government in Nicaragua where half a million people chanted, “Here, there, everywhere/the Yankee will die,’’ while President Daniel Ortega condemned “state terrorism” by America. Sanders said, on camera, supporting the Sandinistas was “patriotic.”

The Republicans had at least four other damning Sanders videos (I don’t know what they showed), and the opposition research folder was almost 2-feet thick. (The section calling him a communist with connections to Castro alone would have cost him Florida.) In other words, the belief that Sanders would have walked into the White House based on polls taken before anyone really attacked him is a delusion built on a scaffolding of political ignorance.

Could Sanders still have won? Well, Trump won, so anything is possible. But Sanders supporters puffing up their chests as they arrogantly declare Trump would have definitely lost against their candidate deserve to be ignored.

nobody knows if the message would have gotten across.

if you're basing it on "likability?" sure, maybe you could argue Sanders was more likable than Clinton, and in an election where the two candidates had high unfavorables that maybe he could have won on that alone. but he would have scared the shit out of moderates.

i used to think the commie thing alone would have sunk him (no, i don't think he's a commie... but stupid people would have, and there's a whoooooole lot of them), but considering there was oodles of evidence out there suggesting Trump was a Russian and that didn't seem to matter, i'm not as sure as i once was.

Sanders could have won. Yes. It would be stupid to say otherwise. It would also be stupid to say he WOULD have won, and there's a valid argument to say that Clitnon would have won if not for the Comey letter.

the left is not as far apart as they seem to think they are - but if they keep throwing stones at each other rather than figuring out the ways in which they are similar and working to iron out the areas where they're not, then THAT is what will keep them out of the white house.

although, let's be honest... the way things are going right now the democrats can argue for four years, and as long as they don't put a fucking chimpanzee up, they should hold it down.

Radicalism is never the answer.

Yeah, I keep hearing this, but no one has explained how and why they think this will work. Or are we just going to rely on slogans again?

In an environment where we're told the left lost because they're too pc, they're focusing on transgenders instead of the working man, they're raising premiums, pushing regulations, and mocking the religious; how is going radical left going to make them win?

We are too big of a country, too complex of a government for radical ideas to really take form. Trump and his wanna be fascists have learnt that the hard way with those god damn activist judges!!!!

All of us in here have said they support the platform that Bernie was for. Where we start to argue is over the details of how to implement.

I still think Bernie loses to Trump when numbers are crunched about higher taxes. And even if he did win, and tried to implement his ideas, there would be so much push back once people find out they will make less $ than they did before.

This is a complex nation. A complex government. It will never be perfect. Inequality will always exist.

Going to the extremes doesn't work, and we are seeing how Extremism tries to govern, and it's been one of the biggest disasters to a presidency ever in this country. and it's a month old

That is one hell of a rambling response. Wow.

I expect that Republicans/conservatives will be outraged by this, of course, since, y'know, they always talk about how they absolutely HATE it when celebrities get involved in politics.

(Unless it's Trump, or Reagan, or Schwartzenegger, of course...)

Puzder withdraws. A pledge to deepen the probe into Russian influence/hacking into the 2016 election.

As days in Trump go, this is a pretty good one.
