I want to believe nothing more than Trump personally being liberal in many aspects, despite what he put on for show / to win.

I hope you are right about this. I never believed the claims that this was all a grand charade for Trump, but now I'm hoping it's true, and that the campaign does not reflect his true colors. My hunch is that's wishful thinking, though.

For the next two years, wishful thinking is half of what we have in the arsenal.

Yeah. I think people in general underestimate how much politicians end up following the platform they campaign on.

Perhaps Trump's platform was so vague as to be almost meaningless, but surely I expect:
- repeal of ACA.
- disengagement from climate change global negotiations.
- a hardline on immigration.
- Giuliani-style approaches to national security and law enforcement.

I think this could go on and on.

I am hoping for a secured border, with immigration managed so people are not exploited
Also, the flow of heroin into this country to dry up so people stop dying needlessly.

The "if it was Bernie" or "if it was Biden" or "if it was Kanye" crowds are quite loud this morning... and hey, maybe they're right. Hillary was never the best candidae. Most admit as such.

But let's run down the facts...
--She outspent Trump by huge margins
--She waxed the floor with him in all three debates
--she had the best of the best running her campaign, and he had his dumb sons
--he fractured his own party while her party rallies around her
--He was so outlandish and boorish that his own staff had to take away his Twitter account to keep him from doing something stupid

And he won.

And he won by driving up record numbers in rural white counties.

A socialist Jew from New Hampshire was going to negate the rural white vote?

Maybe... Maaaaybe if Biden had run he could have won the county around Scranton by a larger number and held on to Pennsylvania. But take away Pennsylvania and Trump still wins, barring something shocking in Arizona.

This was a gross underestimation of the power off white middle America. And the results of this underestimation are terrifying.

I know it's easy to imagine she was the problem. Maybe she was. But I also think people fail to identify why he won.

This is on Trump as a candidate just as much as it is his opponent.

I think he wins no matter who he ran against at this point. It's just insane.

Again, light of day, I ask, how the FUCK did that crack team around her NOT ever go to Wisconsin?!

“My fellow citizens,

The rise of this blusterous man bewilders the educated among us, conjoins opposing politicians, agonizes our international allies, threatens minorities, spits on the disabled, and touches the hearts of those who just don’t know any better.

Let us stop propounding how mad this all is , but instead, do something.”

Still I don't like the Electoral College and think it should go away. Every American vote should have exactly the same weight and power.

I had them too, I'll be honest, because I've been struggling with them a lot this year and was confronted with some very unfortunate truths about my countrymen and various people in my family.

Then I posted that lengthy, upbeat post to convince myself and others that things would be alright.

The red team won, so I hope their fans enjoy our delicious tears. It's not like we're fellow human beings or anything.

This result is nothing to be suicidal over, your earlier post about moving on is the attitude we all need to have. Trump is one man in a government with plenty of checks and balances, even with a Republican controlled congress. Mike Pence just became the most irrelevant man in Government (unless Trump dies). This is a blip in our nation's history. If we survived 8 years of the Cheney administration, we will easily weather 4 years of Orange Donnie. Hopefully Hillary rides into the sunset and a decent candidate with far less baggage challenges in 2020. The changes over the next 4 years won't (can't) be nearly as drastic as some of the outrageous campaign promises, life will go on, and Dave's couch smells so nobody really wants to crash there.

They felt they had this in the bag since they released the Billy Bush tape. They took their foot off the gas in some areas and it cost them. Terrible campaign organization.

Man that took a long time to catch up from when I went to bed last night.

The sun rose this morning.
There will be changes, but nothing as drastic and devastating as some fear.

Playing the Hitler card only works for so long until it stops being effective through overuse. And then when an actual real new Hitler comes along no one will believe you. The boy who cried wolf effect.

let's add in that she's probably going to win the popular vote. and this is spot on -- Biden, i think, might have gotten it done. Bernie? huge unknown. we can say that this was a "change/movement" election, and Bernie would have represented that -- although Obama's approval rating is high, so not really change? -- but i don't see how his leftist politics were going to sway Trump voters, and we know the kids are unreliable, and that Bernie is no Obama when it comes to black voters.

in essence, who the fuck knows.

where i will admit to being dead wrong was HRC's inability to pick off moderate Republican white women. i am shocked about that.

Yeah for those all over Facebook saying that Bernie would have won, that's like saying your football team would have won if they had opted to kick a field goal instead of going for it in the 1st quarter.

I know. I was so sure a sizable amount of women who told family, friends and ever pollsters they were planning to vote for Trump would go into the voting booth, have a come-to-Jesus moment and decide, "Nah, I can't do it."

My mom, a staunch pro-life Republican, told me months ago she couldn't bring herself to vote for either Clinton or Trump so she was staying home. I was hoping there were a lot of women like her. Even if they didn't vote for Clinton, that's a GOP vote Trump would be expected to get that he didn't.
