do those people have this done to them when they're 4, are tortured by their parents for the rest of their childhoods, and then try to commit suicide at 18?

sure hope not.

i've got my facebook so finely tuned that the only people seemingly opposed to gay marriage on my friends list are, in fact, the gays.

It's great that you have no clue that Primal Scream Therapy was claimed, around the same time I think (early 70's), to be a cure for homosexuality. Its inventor, Arthur Janov, defined homosexuality as a neurosis.

Your use of that cute little smilie said so much more than you can defend. Add that to your usual insanity where gay people are concerned, and your flippant attitude towards Irvine's genuine horror and dismay, and I'll stand by my original assessment.

You go ahead and be all smarter than me. I can handle it.

it's still used today. as well as anger bats and anger benches, too, so you can take out your rage at your weak, ineffectual dad who didn't teach you how to want to fuck women and your overdramatic, overbearing mother who was too excessively concerned with your physical safety to let you hunt, fish, play football, and fuck women.

it works really well.

That sounds about right. The younger the generation, the more likely they tend to be to embrace a lot more social changes. I don't know what exactly would still be taboo among us millenials now. I'm sure there's something.

It's kind of a nice surprise to see a downward trend in the pre-1928 crowd, even if it's not a very big one. But it's just pleasing to see the majority of those groups going in that direction . We're getting there.

Having been taken in by the dark side of a religious idea of "psychology" I can at least laugh at this:

Of course it's not funny because the reality of these "courses" makes people who can't help what they feel also not reconcile with their religious beliefs so they are in a damned if they do, damned if they don't position eg. "Why did God make me this way?" Of course you could argue why did God allow a dualistic Satan etc.? Updating philosophy with real psychology is important.

This is my first post here so don't bash me too hard.

I like how the guy in that first clip is SOOOOOOOO deadset against all sorts of interactions that may be construed as "gay", and yet he's sitting right next to a flamboyantly gay person! What does his precious Bible say about that, hmmm? Loved the transgender and "admiring a penis" bits (and woo, I'm ungodly-I watch "Will & Grace"! Go me. And yet, I'm still straight. Curious, that...).

Gay conversion groups are such a pathetic joke. I remember "South Park" once did an episode surrounding Butters going to one, and it was disturbingly funny stuff.

Ironically it's about money in the second video. They use behavioural techniques that are so pavlovian and outdated from the 1950s. It's like A Clockwork Orange or Scientology.

They talk about morality and curing but they really are making a business selling CDs and creating programs that actually causes psychological damage not unlike Scientology or behavioural nightmares that remind me of A Clockwork Orange. A cure that does it's opposite. That is ironic.

No, that's normal.

Morality has never been their reason. Anyone who really knows this issue knows it's not trully about morality, it's about political and congregation seats.

Which = $

Is morality ever divorced from political power? It's seems like all these characters want to control other people by appealing to a higher authority.

It's been argued that religion/morality arose from political power in the first place. The only reason we think otherwise is courtesy of the Enlightenment onwards, which brought us the notion of the separation of church and state.

He's all over the map. Here's another example:

Fascism?

I don't think Dawkins is some genius but Fascist? They should have a philosophy class for metaphysics but real physics should have its own class.

I'm not sure I really understand the religious aspect of any arguments against homosexuality certainly from a Christian point of view, if it was that important to God you'd think it be mentioned in the bible more, there's like what two or three direct references, a couple of indirect ones which you'd have to do some mental gymnastics to turn into an argument against homosexuality (I'm looking at you Genesis 1 unless we're going to start subjecting single people, sterile folk to the same judgement) and pretty much everything direct is in the kookier sections of the Bible (Leviticus, Corinthians, Romans) and certainly not in the Gospels themselves.

For the amount of effort wasted on it by some in the religious right you'd think there would be more.
