School expels girl for having lesbian parents

Okay, putting aside that the entire matter is vile, what do the parents have to do with the child at school?

Are they going to now check for alcoholics, adulterers, divorced parents, drug users, parents who watch porn separately and/or together, mothers who have had previous abortions, those who had premarital sex and so on?

While I hate to see this bullshit, I can't help but wonder why the parents wanted to send the kid to such a school in the first place. Sorry if I offend anyone, but from what I have seen/heard/experienced most Christing schools aren't exactly bastions of tolerance and progressive thought. I sure as hell wouldn't send any kid I cared about to most of them.

consider the school and it makes perfect sense.

"Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

i wonder if any of the faculty has piercings or tatoos...

"You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord."

or...

"Women should listen and learn quietly and submissively. I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly."

if the school has female faculty at all.

But it doesn't say anything about women not laying with women.

Well, that is the easy thing to do but tolerate schools like this in this society is tolerating discrimination.

BTW, get schools like this taxmoney also ?

such bru-ha-ha over things like this, and the astonishing purge of gay clergy in the catholic church, and "christianity" is looking sillier and sillier than ever.

it must be terribly embarassing for christians who don't believe that homosexuality is worse than drugs, murder, prostitution, etc.

go reclaim your religion from these small minded idiots.

I want to know, does the US have discrimination laws or not, which distinguish precisely this kind of thing? You're so not a free nation.

:(

The state cannot enforce anything in this school. Separation of Church and State. If they receive federal money at all, then the Feds can step in, otherwise...no.

I wouldn't be against it necessarily, but how would much stricter discrimination laws that would prevent a private school from expelling this girl make our nation more free, in the technical sense?

And as other people have said, this school gets no federal funding, and if it had this would never have happened.

We've got this coverall type of law here which states no one, institution or organisation can discriminate based upon gender, sexuality, age, race, religion, ethnicity, etc etc. doesn't matter who it is. No school or employer can expel or sack someone because of sexuality. Funding is a non issue. It's simply illegal. It makes everyone free to be who they are without fearing reprisal. It's aim is equality.

For better or worse, the US has a strong history of private property laws which allow certain things like this to happen. It's a double-edged sword.

Jesus was condemned as a heretic.

Religious folk rarely have it right.

Exactly! I truly believe that Jesus would have sided with the parents, not these school leaders and all of the other evangelical bigots out there, who are nothing more than modern day Pharisees.

Freedom is not the same thing as equality.

Like martha said, it's a double-edged sword, and I guess you have to find a happy medium...

Private school, private rules. Read them before you send your kids there.

We were very close to sending one of our kids to a private Christian school at one point, but we didn't care for some of their rules so we didn't.

I understand that this is a private school and therefore they can do what they please-if you go there, unfortunately there's some rules you may have to abide by that you won't really like. They should've been aware of that beforehand, if they weren't already (and if they were, why they still sent her anyway is a mystery).

But it's still really stupid and sad. I really, really wish that these people would start caring about something other than what someone's sexual orientation is. Why is sexual orientation still an issue with some people? I'm sorry, I just don't get it. What. Is. The. Problem?

Because when you're taught your entire life to hate someone, you'll do anything and everything to justify it.

No. This is a private school. Schools that receive tax dollars are prohibited from this kind of discrimination. So far anyway. Who knows what our idiot president will propose next.

like you I read the article in the LA times

if a private Hebrew school

chose to include or exclude a student it is there business

same thing for a So. Baptize School, Black Muslim School, etc.

religios sckools rarely teach true tolerance

this is less and less true

with "faith based money" going to churches it indirectly supports the schools

by freeing up money from other church programs

vouchers are an out and out attack on public schools
and handout to religious intolerance
