it does seem as if Palin is never, ever going to let an opportunity to feel besieged/oppressed/belittled pass her by, since that is the root of her support. they're being mean to her! and her baby!

Yes it does. It's working for her. Keep using what works, I guess. But the supporters are at fault too for not seeing through that.

Yes, but it only seems to work for a small portion of the party... If it works for anyone outside the tea party then our country is a lot worse off then we thought.

Another breaking story. It was originally posted on Mudflats, but traffic has slowed down their servers to a crawl right now, so I'm linking to it on Huff-Po. Our girl Sarah - is there anything she's not hypocritical about? Go to the original article to see links to the documents.

Jeanne Devon ("AKMuckraker"): Sarah Palin - Tax Cheat? Contents of Mysterious Envelope Revealed

Sarah Palin - Tax Cheat? Contents of Mysterious Envelope Revealed

It was a few weeks ago, and it was a day like most days. I was having my first cup of coffee, settling in at my desk, and my eye landed on a stack of mail. On top of the stack was an envelope, and on the envelope was my name, hand written. I didn't see a return address in the corner, so I flipped the envelope over to see who had sent it. Nothing. Two stamps, and a Juneau, Alaska postmark. That was it.

To fully appreciate the contents of the envelope we'll need to wind the clock back to 2006. Sarah Palin is running for governor of the state of Alaska. She's running against former governor Tony Knowles, a Democrat. The DNC, unlike John McCain or the Republican party, decided that it would be to their advantage to vet this unknown Republican candidate for governor. When the McCain campaign "vetted" Palin they ended up with a couple Google articles, and a YouTube video. When the Democrats were finished with her, they had a 63-page document. There were lots of interesting things in the document, including this.

Pg. 48/63 Palin Declined to Appear in Ads for A Candidate Because He Had Not Paid His Property Taxes.

In 2004, it came to light that Republican Rep. Vic Kohring owed the borough $2,277 in unpaid property taxes on property he owns off Knik-Goose Bay Road, according to borough records. "That bothered former Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin enough that she declined a campaign request to do a pro-Kohring TV commercial. As a former mayor, Palin said, it made her uncomfortable to back someone with unpaid taxes when the city relies on property taxes." [Anchorage Daily News (Alaska), 10/28/04]

It was things like this that really made Sarah Palin stand out as a gubernatorial candidate. Republicans in the state were sick of the corruption that was running rampant in their own party, and they wanted change. They wanted a "fresh face" who had new ideas and ethical standards. They wanted someone who was actually bothered by a public official who would cheat his community by passing his personal tax burden on to others.

Recently, Sarah Palin gave an interview to Bill O'Reilly and said her favorite vacation spot was "The middle of nowhere at our cabin in Petersville," Alaska.

And now we get to the envelope. Inside was an unsigned letter which read:

Todd and Sarah are now millionaires, but they shirk their responsibility to pay local property taxes.

Attached are printed copies of Matanuska-Susitna Borough tax assessments from the public website (address shown at the bottom) regarding two lake frontage properties the Palins own in the Petersville Hills. Safari Lake is a gorgeous location, with stunning views of Mt. McKinley and the surrounding terrain.

Please note that two parcels total almost 20 acres and are assessed for a total value of $30,000. Also, there is a $0 value regarding any buildings on the property.

Any photos or visual inspection of the properties would clearly reveal that there are two large "cabins" on the property that are well built, and include thousands of dollars worth of improvements and amenities. The buildings are clearly nicer than many people's homes.

Also on the property is a large shop for snowmachines and four-wheelers.

These buildings have been on the property for years now - yet the Palins have done nothing to correct the assessment.

The letter was followed by two copies of Matanuska-Susitna Borough tax assessments for the parcels of land in question showing records for the years 2007, 2008, and 2009. You can see the documents online HERE and HERE.

This photo, recently obtained by themudflats.net, shows one of the buildings on the property. It was taken about two years ago.

palincabin

There was another reference to property taxes in that vetting document from 2006. It talked about an inner struggle Palin had with whether or not to support a property tax cap. She talked to the Anchorage Daily News.
Pg. 15/63 Palin Called Herself "Such a Weasel" For Not Having a Firm Stand on the Property Tax Cap.

Palin said she has declined requests by Tax Cap Yes to speak in favor of the initiative. Yet, she said, she doesn't object to her name continuing to be listed on the group's Web site among 10 current or former government officials -- half from Mat-Su -- in support of the initiative. Palin acknowledged that she was sounding quite the politician. 'I am so sorry I'm such a weasel,' she said."
[Anchorage Daily News, 10/8/00]

Maybe Palin finally figured out how to solve her dilemma of indecision - pay the taxes on the land, but cap the taxes on improvements at zero. Brilliant!

Did you have a bad day or something? Because your posts are getting more and more hateful and disgusting. That was just flat-out uncalled for.

And what you said is in absolutely no way correct whatsoever, seeing as it's her son, not daughter, who has special needs.

So now, my friend, it looks like you got a Sophie's Choice here;

LIMBAUGH:
"Our political correct society is acting like some giant insult’s taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards. I mean these people, these liberal activists are kooks. They are looney tunes. And I’m not going to apologize for it, I’m just quoting Emanuel. It’s in the news. I think their big news is he’s out there calling Obama’s number one supporters f’ing retards. So now there’s going to be a meeting. There’s going to be a retard summit at the White House. Much like the beer summit between Obama and Gates and that cop in Cambridge."

You can't condemn Rahm and give Rush a pass

If Palin does not condemn Rush she will look like a phoney

What do you think about Rush using the word retards?

I wondered why she was all hot for Searchlight. I spend time in Searchlight and COULD NOT figure out what the draw was... then I read further. It's Harry's hometown. Not that he's ever there.

I wonder if she'll have lunch at the Nugget?

so you are one that is concerned about politicians and real estate scams?

just to be fair, did you get upset about this scam?

Obama on Rezko scam:: It was a mistake :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Politics

Deep, I've read that entire article, and I'm honestly not sure what I should be concerned about. He bought a small strip of land adjacent to the home he'd just purchased - 1/6th of the lot - for 1/6th of the price that Rezko paid for it.

If that ended up being a "scam," could you find me an article that illustrates it better? Because I'm not seeing it. Was it smart to deal with someone like Rezko? Probably not. But all parts of the Obama purchase seemed top be above board.

And please, tell me how this equates to a politician who ran on a platform of cleaning up unethical practices in Alaskan politics lying on a land assessment form for YEARS, and is paying lower taxes to the government as a result?

I know you fancy yourself some sort of hypocrisy police, and you were hoping to bust me, but the two situations aren't even close.

Palin Considering 2012 Run, Defends Limbaugh's Use Of 'Retard' On Fox News Sunday

"Palin also used her platform to continue a call for the president to rid himself of his closest advisers. On Attorney General Eric Holder, she labeled his handling of captured terrorists -- "allowing them our U.S. constitutional protections when they do not deserve them" -- a firing offense. On Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emanuel, she said his comments calling liberal groups "f-ing retards" was "indecent and insensitive" and cause for his dismissal.

But the former governor went to great and sometimes awkward lengths to insist that when conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh used the same exact term to describe the same exact group, it was simply in the role of political humorist.

"They are kooks, so I agree with Rush Limbaugh," she said, when read a quote of Limbaugh calling liberal groups "retards." "Rush Limbaugh was using satire ... . I didn't hear Rush Limbaugh calling a group of people whom he did not agree with 'f-ing retards,' and we did know that Rahm Emanuel, as has been reported, did say that. There is a big difference there."

Wait. Those idiot tea baggers are all crying over how that damn Socialist is destroying the Constitution, but this idiot gets to decide to whom it applies?

What a bunch of idiots.

Holy crap...

How is it that so many still see this woman as a viable canidate?

I didn't hear Rush Limbaugh calling a group of people whom he did not agree with 'f-ing retards

With the exception of not use the f-word, that's exactly what he did... you fucking moron.

(I did not call someone I do not agree with a "fucking moron", I was using satire.)

could someone tell me, please, what are Sarah Palin's specific plans to address the following issues:

1. the debt
2. health care
3. Afghanistan
4. energy

i know she has opinions, but i'm looking for plans and specific recommendations for actions.

i'd love to know what she has beyond slogans.

1. get government out of the way of free enterprise
2. tort reform and competition
3. like Reagan said 'we win, they lose'.
4. drill baby, drill, with some new energy programs where they make sense

One thing the 2008 election taught us all.

Is a platform with snappy answers can suffice with independents and the disaffected enough to win an election.

Probably go like this:

1. Not good
2. Death Panels
3. Need to bring terrorist to justice
4. Need More

I honestly can't think of one proposed plan or idea out of her head. She has that classic mentality "Say what you see, not what you think". Sky is blue, terrorism bad, lower taxes good, socialism not good.

I still see her running for President, but she's going to need a lot of coaching, and it'll be interesting to see if her advisors still shelter her from interviews and press conferences.

It barely got her by as the VP candidate, but i just can't see it working through the primaries.

i really don't have much to add, other than that i saw Palin's speech the other day, and i think she comes across as very smart.

that will resonate with a lot voters

I think she can be a better candidate than W was at this stage, to dismiss her because she does not measure up, could be the same mistake many of us made when we dismissed W in 1999.

I think you're a bit deluded here.

Corporate Republicans, the guys out on Wall St who run the show (sorry Teabaggers and pentecostal pro-lifers) cannot stand this woman and will never allow her to be a candidate in the GOP. Heaven knows I'm no conservative - social, fiscal or otherwise - but heaven also knows that I know plenty of the fiscal variety, upper crust conservatives with $ and power and there is not a chance in hell they will come to the aid of this woman. Completely different situation than W, who had the corporatists behind him.

You are way, way misreading things.

She can go run as a candidate for the Tea Party of Amurka, which no serious person would vote for, and would only split the right's vote down the middle, making it an election rout for Obama.

Of cour$e, none of thi$ make$ any difference becau$e it'$ plain a$ night and day what Palin i$ actually intere$ted in.

I am very familiar with the Corporate Republicans,
they have money and influence, they may get their pick this time.
That would be Romney. He is pretty well positioned with his upset win in MA. It was his people that ran Scott Brown's (the people's senate seat) campaign.

Or they could be upset by another maverick, with populace support.

Right now, if I had to bet, I'd go with Romney.

I'd like to know what you're basing this off of...

Strange world where someone who has a special needs child gets angry when a powerful and influential White House staffer uses the word "retarded" as a synonym for "stupid" and gets beat up over it. Of course, if it had been a Republican and used "gay" in place of "stupid," I think we all know what EVERYONE in the media would be talking about tonight.

But you know, we can't even in the slightest, most non-political, human decency instance can we side with Sarah Palin on something. Even if it's something as simple as calling Rahm out for being a jackass, which should be common knowledge at this point.

Perhaps the person's original comments are based on Palin's constant hypocrisy?

Case in point, making comments about others using teleprompters when she herself uses notecards and writing on her hand. And that is just the latest in a line of dumb and hypocritical things she's done and said.

There is nothing wrong with a teleprompter, note cards... but when she and other Conservative talking heads say it as though it's a bad things for one to use a teleprompters... when those same people are using a teleprompter or notes or note cards... well... hyprocritical of them.

More proof she's a hypocrit?

She taxed oil companys and then paid out money to all citizens of Alaska. (The amount was around $3200.00)

For someone that wants to call others 'socialists' and complain about some trying to 'spread the wealth', she did just that with the oil companys and citizens of Alaska.

Palin is nothing more than a talking point machine, at best. She's no original or good ideas. And all reports from inside the McCain campaign have said she wasn't willing to listen to anyone else. So she's no original ideas and won't listen to anyone else. She's quit every job she's ever had... How does anyone consider her viable in the world of politics?

Right now, if I had to bet, I'd go with Romney.

Same here.

Nevermind that he is going to destroy Palin in the GOP primary, should she elect to run.

No way will the corporatists support her. She's really a total non-sequitur, it's a pity that she's such a fame whore and the media are cheap shills.

i can also see Romney terrifying the tea-baggers. perhaps they revolt and start a third-party?

Romney = Bob Dole

my favorite excuse for the Palin writing-on-hand -- "lots of busy moms have to write notes to themselves on their hands."

amazing that a shiny object has every little kitty pawing away at it.

Palin is still winning.

Palin is still winning.

if winning means polarizing the electorate, then you are right.

it is true that she is best ignored. after all, we all know what the Palin people think that Gibbs was really doing.

HE WAS MAKING FUN OF TRIGG!

I just think all of her detractors are elevating her.

She should be fading away from the national spot light, like Joe Lieberman the losing V P candidate in 2000 or Dan Quayle the 92 loser.

Instead just like the author in the Atlantic article you posted believes,
I see the potential for her to have much more success, than many are predicting.

Palin has fervent believers who want more from her than Lieberman or Quayle ever had. while i wish she would go away, no one will allow her.

she appeals to people's sub-rational instincts. as someone said earlier, all she does is describe problems. sky blue, china sneaky, energy more. she's pure sensation, and i think she believes it in a way that Bush did after 9/11 -- "higher father" -- but that was eventually beaten out of him.

I also like how she replaced budget cuts with tax cuts. Nothing like fiscal conservatism! Tax cuts and increased spending! It'll be like George W. Bush all over again! YEE-HA!
