O'Reilly's statements fit in with what Irvine was saying, that the GOP base is trying to ease the party into accepting gay marriage and ditch it as a platform issue.
 
Read that Uruguay's senate has approved it. The lower house already did a few months ago, now they have to approve modifications. The President already said he will sign it, so it is pretty much legal there now.

Random but don't you love how long it all takes? Oh politics, imagine if you could take so long to do something at your job? :wink:

Ferguson’s office is seeking an injunction that would permanently require Arlene’s Flowers & Gifts to provide services to gays and lesbians. Should the company continue to avoid compliance, a $2,000 fine would be imposed for each failure to abide by the law.

“As attorney general, it is my job to enforce the laws of the state of Washington,” Ferguson said in a statement. “Under the Consumer Protection Act, it is unlawful to discriminate against customers on the basis of sexual orientation. If a business provides a product or service to opposite-sex couples for their weddings, then it must provide same-sex couples the same product or service.”

Furor over the Boy Scouts of America’s stance on gays continues to rage. Now, California lawmakers are considering taking some tax exemptions away from youth groups that do not accept gay, transgender or atheist members — a move intended to pressure the Scouts to lift its ban on gay Scouts and troop leaders.
Some cities have withdrawn free rent and other subsidies from the Boy Scouts over the years, but legislation introduced by state Sen. Ricardo Lara would make California the first state to target the Scouts for its anti-gay policy.

Yes, because nothing says progress like telling young kids in the Scouts that atheism and being gay are wrong. Holy fuck that's boneheaded of you.

A major reason I quit Scouts was because I was forced to recite the line "I will do my duty to my Queen and to my God". When I was 14, for fuck's sake.

Interesting that INDY thinks that taxpayers at large should be funding this. Bit socialist, innit?

Bottom line is if you are an organization that wants to subsist partially on taxpayer dollars and live off the government's tax teet, then you can't do so to the exclusion of whole segments of society.

The fact that anyone finds this outrageous is unsurprising, though no less eyeroll-worthy.
 
ultimately, it is true that when SSM becomes legal, life becomes slightly more uncomfortable for people who do not believe that SSM should be legal.

A gay man was arrested at a hospital in Missouri this week when he refused to leave the bedside of his partner, and now a restraining order is preventing him from any type of visitation.

Roger Gorley told WDAF that even though he has power of attorney to handle his partner’s affairs, a family member asked him to leave when he visited Research Medical Center in Kansas City on Tuesday.

Gorley said he refused to leave his partner Allen’s bedside, and that’s when security put him in handcuffs and escorted him from the building.

“I was not recognized as being the husband, I wasn’t recognized as being the partner,” Gorley explained.

He said the nurse refused to confirm that the couple shared power of attorney and made medical decision for each other.

“She didn’t even bother to look it up, to check in to it,” the Lee’s Summit resident recalled.

In a 2010 memorandum, President Barack Obama ordered hospitals that receive Medicare or Medicaid funding to allow visitation rights for gay and lesbian partners.

For its part, Research Medical Center insisted that it does not discriminate based on sexual orientation.

“We believe involving the family is an important part of the patient care process,” the hospital said in a statement. “And, the patient`s needs are always our first priority. When anyone becomes disruptive to providing the necessary patient care, we involve our security team to help calm the situation and to protect our patients and staff. If the situation continues to escalate, we have no choice but to request police assistance.”

Gorley cannot currently visit his partner at all due to a restraining order issued after his arrest on Tuesday.

remember, Americans with strong moral convictions and objections to homosexuality who should be free to live a faith that apparently requires them to disregard the laws of the United States and let them discriminate against whomever they pick and choose are the *real* victims when gay people get married.

A false analogy but all this intervention of the State makes perfect sense if you believe SSM is a civil right and that opposition to SSM is analogous to racial bigotry preventing blacks from marrying whites. Rational people may disagree on SSM but they should agree that while there is no physiological difference between black and white there is a great deal of difference between male and female.

Speaking of rights, try replacing “extreme gay marriage stance” with the right to “freedom of speech,” “suing Christian florist” with the right to “free exercise of religion” and “punish Boy Scouts” (a private organization) with the right to “peaceably assemble.”

Your religious "rights" don't allow you to break the law.

As someone living in quaking fear of the menace of encroaching Sharia law, you should be quite thankful for secular government.

Btw, there are quite a lot of people in the 60s, 70s, and even today who would be quite happy to point out what they believe are to be real physiological differences between blacks and whites, and as such should not be allowed to marry and breed (think about the confused children of such unions).

Do you even know what freedom of speech entitles you to? Are people you know being thrown in jail or charged for speaking their minds? And the rest of your replacement quotes make no sense whatsoever. You're losing it, Indy. Sexuality and race are different things, but neither should serve as a means to deny access to the rights and responsibilities of marriage.

And no religion should say that it's their religious right to discriminate on the basis of either, especially when their beliefs are in clear violation of the law.
 
We should have conversion wars. See how many gays can be converted straight by Christians as opposed to how many Christians can be converted into homosexuals.
