The only thing he should apologize for is referencing Will & Grace in that interview.

Ah, US Vice Presidents. Keep on keepin' on with your wacky ways.

What doesn't make sense is that it's not like SSM was legal or pending legality. It was never legal, it's legality isn't an issue.

This amendment absolutely proves one of the main contentions in the Prop 8 brief -- that those against SSM are motivated by animus towards a long despised minority.

This amendment absolutely proves that most states want the legality of gay marriage decided by "the people" and not by liberal judges or militant gay activists like Dan Savage.

DOMA closed the door on same-sex marriage progressing through the federal courts by the Full Faith and Credit clause of the U.S. Constitution. The fact that the Obama Administration favors the repeal of DOMA shows what a fraud President Obama is when he says he believes the states have the right to define marriage.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: all politicians are liars. Obama is not a special snowflake in this regard.

What the fuck does polygamy have to do with gay people?

Stop blaming me for your bullshit.

It proves that civil right should not be subject for a vote. Minority rights always lose.

No one voted on your marriage. No one voted on Obama's Parent's marriage. Don't vote on mine.

Lol at the Savage characterization.

Why do Christians think they invented marriage? Is it the same reason they think they invented morality?

Stop unfairly, and incorrectly, labeling all opposition to same-sex marriage as anti-gay.

this post doesn't make any sense.

stop foisting your polygamy concerns on gay people. when gay people are allowed to marry one person and then start to want to marry multiple people, maybe then you can lump them in with your invented polygamy panic.

What would you prefer we call it, then?

There are some people I've come across who are against same sex marriage who aren't anti-gay, but it's moreso because they're against marriage across the board in general.

But you're not one of those people. So what is your reasoning? I believe we've asked this of you quite a few times here of late-still waiting for an answer. What about same-sex marriage bothers you so much? Why specifically are you so opposed to it?

Look, I'm just saying that this will open a very large (and dangerous) Pandora's box. Mainly, other groups will come out and say "well, if the president endorses gay marriage then why shouldn't he endorse polygamy as well?"....etc....etc.

People have been saying that well before Obama made his statement . And those people are stupid. It's not even close to being a comparable argument and has been shot down time and time again.

For the record, though, I will say this: if everyone in a polygamous marriage was of legal age and consenting, I personally really couldn't care less if they want to live their lives that way. But as stated, that sort of marriage is a choice. Being gay is not a choice, and people shouldn't be denied the right to get married based on a trait they have no control over (and even if they did have control over it, it's still not a logical reason to deny them the right to get married).

And as for marrying dogs or robots or trees or whatever the fuck else sorts of warped comparisons the anti-same sex marriage crowd like to trot out, again: LACK OF CONSENT RENDERS THOSE NULL AND VOID. It's really, honestly not that hard a concept to grasp, people, let's get with the program here.

Meh. Considering that this segment is also alienated by free blacks, free women, liberals, immigrants, secular education, and anyone who doesn't prescribe to their narrow brand hard-line, flat-earth evangelical fundamentalism, I'm more surprised that we didn't "alienate" these mouth-breathers back into the 19th century where they belong ages ago. These people weren't going to vote for the "fascist socialist Muslim atheist black man" anyway; their tin foil hats don't seem to respond to reason, but do so happen to get perfect reception from FOX News--the network so terrified of progress that they're headquartered in the most liberal city in one of the most liberal states in the country and don't seem to be bothered by that contradiction one bit.

Yeah, it's really good to have you back :D.

There's a lesbian columnist here who has been bumming me out since Obama came out (ha ha ha) in support of gay marriage. She's vehemently anti-marriage, so it really killed a lot of people's buzz yesterday when she was tweeting about it.

While I think marriage is completely unnecessary, I'm not against it. People who want to get married should have the right to be married. Period.

No, this amendment proves that there are many stupid people who condone domestic violence.
:tsk:

And why should the legality of marriage be decided by "the people" and not through parliamentary action?

Didn't know where else to put this, but it's awesome

Can you stop ignoring the multitude of posts that asked you what ramifications this will have?

I am interested, as a citizen of a country where gay marriage has been legal for years. I'd like to know in what way the society that I inhabit has crumbled since that landmark decision.

Yeah, that's pretty much it here. Gay marriage has been legal for... 10 years now I think.

I had to look it up, but your guess is close. April 1st 2001 was the day it was legalized. And we all know of the horrible decline of the Netherlands since then. The lousy spring we're currently having should be enough proof.

Ah, so 11 years already. Not bad, we're still alive!

Yeah, I totally blame the gays on this horrible weather. And the fall of the government, of course. Totally their fault.

Think of all the Dutch children whose lives have been RUINED because they grew up with two mums or two dads. You just wait. In 10-20 years' time, it will have ceased to exist.

Might as well, though. We're apparently on the same slippery slope as polygamy, bestiality, and incest. Incest of course excluding the god-given, sacred, 3000-year old right to marry your first cousin in North Carolina.

To point this out is not anti-gay, guys.
