Oh, gee, look, another one :

https://gma.yahoo.com/kansas-workpla...opstories.html

Larry Wilmore was discussing the whole thing with the Apple phone investigation debate the other night, and he made a good point: it's funny how the government will do everything imaginable to investigate and track that sort of thing, but apparently we just can't be bothered to do something similar when it comes to gun ownership/usage.

The terrorist group NRA has commissioned children's fairy tales to be rewritten with guns in order to spread the propaganda early.

I wish this was an April Fool's joke.

I saw a thing about that on TV last night.

Words can't even describe my reaction to that.

And again...

https://www.yahoo.com/news/orlando-p...082553236.html

Second notable shooting in just two days in this area, too.

They just keep talking about injuries in this latest one, though-so far the only death I've heard about is the shooter's. So as of now, at least, from what I'm reading, it doesn't sound like we've got a "mass deaths" sort of situation here. *Trying to find the positive*

20 confirmed fatalities

This one is going to be bigger than your usual everyday American mass shooting I'm afraid... appears the guy was also wearing a suicide vest

Oh, geez, so there were fatalities, then?

Damn. I knew the article said "mass casualty", which indicates death, but I wasn't certain since they'd only mentioned injuries, so that tripped me up and confused me a bit.

But if that's the case, then ugh. That sucks. And a suicide vest as well. Wonderful. Sounds like another San Bernadino sort of situation, maybe.

(The guy who killed that singer from "The Voice" yesterday, I heard he had a small arsenal of weapons on him, too, as though he were planning on a mass spree of his own.)

Holy shit.

The weird part is that this isn't yet all over my social media feeds like other big American shootings, but I guess it's a bit early over there, and to be honest I'm not sure those of us in Australia really have much to say about these events any more than a baffled and saddened shake of the head, and the same broken record comments about America's incomprehensible-to-us gun culture.

Who was it who said that if the mass death of a bunch of school kids didn't affect change, then nothing would?

Gunman in a Latin gay club. 20 dead. The gunman killed himself. Sounds like he was organized and prepared. They are calling it an act of terror. He had an assault rifle as well as a "suspicious device."

Some reports of possible "Islamic" motivations.

Also, in many cities, it's Gay Pride weekend.

He didn't kill himself. Was shot dead by police after a gun battle.

I consider any mass shooting targeting a group of people to be an "act of terror", regardless of the identity of the shooter. This is so very sad.

Agreed. Maybe just viewing all mass shootings in that manner is what we need to do to get something moving, I dunno.

But seriously, it's just...I do not get how people can still keep sticking their heads in the sand on this issue, and refuse to budge even a LITTLE bit. Again I say, I'm honestly scared to find out what it COULD take to finally get people to wake the fuck up.

Unfortunately with how our news works over here, there will be 50 different versions of what happens. No wonder conspiracy theories are so easy to make up....

When you allow citizens the right to guns, this really isn't that unexpected. We have proven time and time again that our society is not fit to own them.

But nothing will ever change

Wow, how much I never wanted to be so close to this topic.

I was two blocks down the road from the Plaza Theatre on Friday where that first murder happened. Didn't know anybody there. But, that was one of the most memorable concerts I can think of. Naked and Famous with Vacationer. The Plaza is an old movie theater converted into a concert hall. Autographs would be right in the lobby. The venue opens up a table and makes space for the artist as the fans flock over. I've had intentions to return before I leave Orlando finally in September. Because I love that little venue. And now my memory of it is replaced with a murder scene.

All in the meanwhile I woke up to some texts about what happened at Pulse last night. Right now I'm just with as many details as the next person, but it's pretty likely that I knew someone there. I've been to Pulse many times. That was another place that I have written down on a list, wishing to bid farewell to. Something I probably will not be doing. Very uneasy morning.

Take it easy and stay safe, LN . And here's hoping if anyone you do know was there, that they made it out okay.

50 dead, 53 hospitalized. Conflicting reports on whether or not killer is from Afghanistan or simply of Afghani descent.

I believe this would be the worst mass shooting in US history.

I know that 50 number came from Buddy Dyer's mouth. I have no idea if that was clarified but I'm so hoping that's a misspoken number.

I'm just shaking right now.
