Scary thing is, I bet there are plenty of people in the US who think that way and would say those things about her

http://english.pravda.ru/main/18/88/354/16724_Condoleezza.html

The leader of the Liberal and Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), Vladimir Zhirinovsky, expressed his opinion on the matter in an exclusive interview with Pravda.Ru.

"Complex-prone women are especially dangerous. They are like malicious mothers-in-law, women that evoke hatred and irritation with everyone. Everybody tries to Vladimir Zhirinovskypart with such women as soon as possible. A mother-in-law is better than a single and childless political persona, though.

"This is really scary. Ms. Rice's personal complexes affect the entire field of international politics. This is an irritating factor for everyone, especially for the East and the Islamic world. When they look at her, they go mad.

"Condoleezza Rice needs a company of soldiers. She needs to be taken to barracks where she would be satisfied. On the other hand, she can hardly be satisfied because of her age. This is a complex. She needs to return to her university and teach students there. She could also deal with psychological analysis.

"The true reason of Ms. Rice's attack against Russia is very simple. Condoleezza Rice is a very cruel, offended woman who lacks men's attention. Releasing such stupid remarks gives her the feeling of being fulfilled. This is the only way for her to attract men's attention," Vladimir Zhirinovsky said. "

Maybe he wants to impress her by playing macho.. cmon, this woman is made of steel!

I like this new healthy balance of near-to-feminist contributions on FYM.

lets bash Russian machos :hyper:

Rice comes across arrogant, she has a hectoring style that does not come across well and she is not very popular in the world.

When she came to Ireland she informed us we should thank the US government (i.e. HER) that we had the right to free speech. My considered response to that is as follows: Fuck you, Condi.

If one takes out the misogyny some of what this Russian says is not unreasonable. But yes the obvious misogynist undertones would cause many people to be understandably revolted by his comments.

She may come across as arrogant, but so do many men and yet they don't have their sex lives, childlessness, etc questioned and they aren't insulted in such a disgusting, personal way. I don't like some things about her but her personal life and her being a woman is not relevant.

Of course that's what some men always resort to when confronted with a powerful woman or any woman who rubs them the wrong way.

I didn't have the stomach to read the whole article :yuck: so I can't comment on whatever other crap he was spewing

Israeli newspapers quoted Sharon as saying that he could not concentrate in his first meeting with then-national security advisor Condoleezza Rice because she had "very nice legs."

She has good qualifications for the job to be fair in terms of linguistic skills and the like.

Well saying she has nice legs isn't all that offensive when you compare it to what that Russian guy said. A hypothetical female leader could say Bill Clinton was sexy and maybe that would be somewhat comparable to the legs comment. I doubt that Ariel Sharon ever said anything about her that is comparable to what the Russian guy said in this interview.

I just looked at it again-if those are the prevailing attitudes in Russia then thank God I don't live there.

Ok let's have some fun with this.

"Complex-prone men are especially dangerous. They are like overbearing fathers-in-law, men that evoke hatred and irritation with everyone. Everybody tries to part with such men as soon as possible. A father-in-law is better than a frustrated political persona, though.

"This is really scary. Mr. Cheney's personal complexes affect the entire field of international politics. This is an irritating factor for everyone, especially for the East and the Islamic world. When they look at him, they go mad.

"Dick Cheney needs a bevy of beauties. He needs to be taken to a brothel where he would be satisfied. On the other hand, he can hardly be satisfied because of his age. This is a complex. He needs to return to his oil company and research the oil market there. He could also deal with psychological analysis.

"The true reason of Mr Cheney's attack against Iraq is very simple. Dick Cheney is a very cruel, offended man who lacks womens' attention. Releasing such stupid remarks gives him the feeling of being fulfilled. This is the only way for him to attract womens' attention," some Russian woman said. " [/B][/QUOTE]

I think my version works better.

Just messing around but yes I agree there are indications that Russian society has a misogynistic streak.

Whos mo sexy Condi or Clinton? :hmm:

we´d need to hear white house assistants on that

I, for one, don't have a problem with her. But then she has no power at all in my country :)

She, for one, at least seems to have her head screwed on. Like a watered down, but better looking, Margaret Thatcher.

And yes, I am sure the entire world hated/hates Thatcher to some degree, but she was a pretty good leader.

With more women like her around, we could see more females running governments around the world.

is that the same Pravda....

anyway, she's probably arrogant although I haven't gotten that from the relatively few times I've watched her speak. Instead I noticed that her voice seems to shake constantly and she seems very nervous, which seems to indicate she's not a good liar which is why I don't think she could do well as a president.

she's always struck me as thoroughly competent, no matter how awful i think some of the things she says are. i think i was most impressed with her during the 9-11 hearings: she got up there and, just like any other politician, she stonewalled and evaded Congress and refused to take any responsibility for anything.

good for her. she's like the best rebounder on the team. why should she be subject to greater expectations than anyone else? she was hired to do a job, and she's doing it.

i do think that much of the attention she gets is due to her race and gender. it's simply a fact, neither good nor bad. she's a pioneer, of sorts, and is simply going to attract attention because of that.

and i do admit, she does fascinate me, but in more of a "what is she *really* like" kind of way.

i don't like rice, but i think it's awesome that america has someone like her who holds such an important position.

anyway I wouldn´t jump in bed with her

since noone can guarantee that she wouldn´t start to look for weapons of mass destruction in my pants

I think women in politics need to be a little aggressive, strong and confident. I'm sure the same things have been said about Hillary now that she's a senator...and if they haven't, they will when it looks like she may run for Prez in the near future

I thought some about this thread and was trying to find a similar specific misogynist statement by Rush Limbaugh which he is apparently proud of because he uses it repeatedly and I have heard it often. I couldn't find the exact quote, but the paraphrase is that feminism was invented by ugly women who did not have a place in society because they could not find a man.

[q]Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society. -Rush Limbaugh [/q]

here are some other lovely quotes:

[q]Feminists are desperately anxious to prove that women are as strong as capable as men. Clearly they are nagged by a fear that women may NOT be as strong and as capable as men. --Ted Kaczynski, pt. 14 in the Unabomber's manifesto

[Feminism is] a socialist, anti-family, political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians. --Pat Robertson, 1992 Republican National Convention

The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians. -Pat Robertson (Christian Coalition)

I know this is painful for the ladies to hear, but if you get married, you have accepted the headship of a man, your husband. Christ is the head of the household and the husband is the head of the wife, and that's the way it is, period. -Pat Robertson (Christian Coalition)

I'm an old-fashioned woman. Men should take care of women, and if men were taking care of women today, we wouldn't have to vote. -Kay O'Connor (Kansas Senate Republican)

The demise of our community and culture is the fault of sissified men who have been overly influenced by women. -Tony Evans (Promise Keepers)

Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society. -Rush Limbaugh

Rail as they will about 'discrimination,' women are simply not endowed by nature with the same measures of single-minded ambition and the will to succeed in the fiercely competitive world of Western capitalism. -Pat Buchanan [/q]

I have to give Dr. Rice her props for being an African-American woman who has made it in what is essentially rich WASPy boy network.

And Vladimir Zhirinovsky is truly an ass muppet, but sadly his POV isn't that uncommon. Far too many people see women who are single and especially who are childless as deeply flawed. I'm childfree and I've been accused of being immoral, selfish, unwomanly, irresponsible over a decision I put a lot of thought in. A while back, I read a book about mothers in the workplace. Now if the author wanted to mention how being a mother made her a more effective worker, fine, but she spent ungodly amounts of time slamming women without children. She claimed they are cold, unbalanced, and unfeeling. She called women without children "dragon ladies" and told the readers to have children or else they will be viewed as immature and unprofessional. It really pissed me off.

Thanks, Irvine. Interesting post, Golightly Grrl. I agree it's not an uncommon point of view at all.

it just sounds like he spewed all this out of his ass..
put down the vodka stupid and get a damn clue!

I don't care for Condi's politics, but I respect her intelligence, her discipline, and her achievements. She used to be a pairs figure skater, but quit when she realized she wasn't good enough for the Olympics. This is one goal-oriented lady.
