The BBC is now debating whether the smoke is white enough.

The bells have to ring too, in addition to white smoke. That's due to a rule change by JPII, because the smoke can be pretty unreliable, apparently.

I reckon it's a publicity stunt by the cardinals to get the world media focused on them. That'd be the cynic in me I guess.....

turn on the t.v. ... dont have any links..

bells are ringing. about half an hour and we will know who it is.

Wow, they were saying "black smoke, black smoke" this morning.

That was quick. How long did it take them to elect John Paul II?

Oh I almost don't even want to know who they elected.

Well, I guess I might as well enjoy my last remaining vestiges of Catholicism while it lasts. Chances are, I will find nothing to like about this new guy, since "inclusiveness" hasn't been in the Catholic vocabulary lately. The new fad is "purity of doctrine."

The election of Pope John Paul II took eight ballots. I think it was a total of three days of balloting. Yes, indeed, there's white smoke and the bells are ringing but they haven't announced who it is. Ah, the suspense.........I'm going to turn on the news.
