Well they have to become consistent, otherwise we may just start thinking they were shit scared of "Muslim rage"
AN EPISODE of cartoon program South Park that features the Pope has been pulled from Australian television.

The final episode of the current series of the long-running US animated series — which had been scheduled for Monday — has been "deferred", according to an SBS spokesman.

Because of sensitivities about religious cartoons in the wake of the Danish cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad, SBS would have to give "some more thought" to the scheduling of the Bloody Mary episode.

"Given the current worldwide controversy over cartoons of religious figures, we've decided to defer this program," he said in a statement yesterday.

The episode shows a statue of the Virgin Mary spurting menstrual blood on the Pope.

It was shown in New Zealand on Wednesday night, prompting a vigil by hundreds of Catholics outside broadcaster TV Works. Despite the protest, 200,000 New Zealanders watched the program, six times the usual audience.

Religion has been a comedic target on the show, which has skewered the Mormon faith, had characters making derogatory remarks about Jews and shown Jesus hosting a TV show and fighting Satan in a boxing ring.

An episode recently screened in Australia featured Muhammad as part of a superhero group. Together with Jesus, Buddha, Krishna and others, Muhammad helps character Kyle defeat an evil cult.

So consistent, so utterly innofensive and bland :|

A cartoon of the pope watching Nazi Porn, maybe that could provoke some "Catholic rage"?

In the season finale, which first aired on December 7, a local statue of the Virgin Mary bleeds from its ass. Townsfolk think it's a miracle. Pope Benedict XVI visits to inspect the statue in person, determines that it is instead bleeding from its vagina, and declares: "A chick bleeding out her vagina is no miracle. Chicks bleed out their vaginas all the time."

Does any Catholic out there actually like this Pope enough to work themselves up over this? I can't believe it.

What dumbass censorship.

i dont really care either way, i wasnt offended by the cartoons and i wouldnt be offended by this if i was a catholic either. yet, there is this damned thing called real politik out there

Religion can just cry me a river. Considering all the intolerant superstitious nonsense that has spouted out of its mouth for millennia, you'd think it would be able to take what it dishes out? But no...it's as pampered and spoiled as ever, then pisses and moans when people try and call it on its bigotry. Then WE'RE the intolerant ones, guys. The sky is green, guys, because the Bible says so. Even if my eyes see blue, I must be wrong!!!!!@!!!!@111

Well I agree partly, although your eyes may be wrong - the answer is to measure the wavelength of the electromagnetic radiation coming in from the atmosphere and definitively saying that the sky is blue, or is not.

Scientific measurement, however, when it contradicts religious scriptures, is usually rejected outright. Look at our (un)intelligent design folks out there? And if you try and call out the pseudoscience with ID, you're the intolerant one! And when religions spread nothing but nonsense about homosexuals around the world, contrary to all credible science and psychology, you're not allowed to call them bigots!

I mean, they want the best of all worlds. Again, religion can fucking cry me a river.

Exactly, believers demand respect for themselves and their beliefs, but in doing so without upholding their end of the bargin (treating other people like people) they should not expect it. This situation may be far from ideal but it provides a good source of entertainment.

Forget the (un) on that designer

ID stands for

Incompetent Design
Ignorant Design
Incompatible Design

I'm Catholic but I don't get myself worked up over verbal attacks on the Pope, I understand some people really don't like him. He certainly was never my favorite Cardinal. Still, I think the Australians used good sense because some Catholics are a hell of alot touchier about this sort of thing than I am. That's silly, but I can't help it.

I think Sinead O'Conner should be invited back to SNL.

Or at least rerun the photo-shredding show...it was brilliant and unfortunately for her career, before its time.

But it's not good sense, this station has had no problem offending religious beliefs in the past but only now after MoToons does it start attempting to look even handed in it's censorship, but it still doesn't change the fact that it's wrong.

How do you compare this to the Mohammed cartoons?
