For those so moved.....
Whether you are pro or anti war, if you would like to show support for the US military personnel, the following are ways suggested by the DoD:
__________________Donate a calling card to help keep servicemembers in touch with their families at Operation Uplink at http://www.operationuplink.org/ Send a greeting via e-mail through Operation Dear Abby at http://anyservicemember.navy.mil/ or www.OperationDearAbby.net Sign a virtual thank you card at the Defend America Web site at http://www.defendamerica.mil/nmam.html Make a donation to one of the military relief societies: Army Emergency Relief at http://www.aerhq.org/ Navy/Marine Relief Society at http://www.nmcrs.org/ Air Force Aid Society at http://www.afas.org/ Coast Guard Mutual Assistance at http://www.cgmahq.org/ Donate to"Operation USO Care Package" at http://www.usometrodc.org/care.html Support the American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services at http://www.redcross.org/services/afes/ Volunteer at a VA Hospital to honor veterans who bore the lamp of freedom in past conflicts. Support families whose loved ones are being treated at military and VA hospitals through a donation to the Fisher House at www.fisherhouse.org. Reach out to military families in your community, especially those with a loved one overseas. |

![]() Thanks. I think it's important that people realize that just because some of us don't believe in fighting this war, we still put all our prayers and support behind our troops. |

Thanks. I think it is important to give these people our emotional support and let them know that we are thinking about them. It's a people thing--I don't think it has a blasted thing to do with what our political views on the war are. These are our compatriots.

this is strange...when I go to that link it only shows the two ships that I already emailed...I've even tried deleting all my cookies...I wanted to e-mail more ships too
![]() Is anyone else getting the entire list of ships to show up on the link I just posted or is it just my computer for some reason that is only showing two? ![]() |

I signed the Virtual Thank You card. I'm glad I can let these people know I'm thinking about them and I care about them. It's something anyone can do no matter what their political views are.

Sure
![]() I just checked the board, there are some good messages on there. The last which i quote here is shocking though - do you think this is cynicism ![]() From one Vet to Another, I just wanted to say thank you and let you know that you are not alone or forgotten. Many people don't realize that even though you may be surrounded by hundreds of people, the battlefield can be a very lonely place. When it comes right down to it, it's just you, your weapon, your training and your beliefs. Just know that you and your comrades in arms are never alone. Although I do not feel that we should be fighting this war, I know that those in the military have no choice but to do what our commander-in-chief orders us to do. Good luck and Godspeed to you all. I hope this is over soon so that the least amount of casualties occur. We have already lost too many. a Senior Airman I love all you wonderful bastards and I wish I could personally hug you all and say THANK YOU to your faces. In the meantime, please recover from your wounds quickly and without complications. Remember, those wounds count for something, for the bullet or frag your took for the country represents the valorous, can-do attitude that made this country the greatest in world history. Remember though, one Purple Heart is too many, and remember that "no sonuvabitch ever won a war by dying for his country; he won the war by making the other poor dumb bastard die for HIS country." Someday soon I will welcome you back home and, boy --- will we ever have a party for you! Thank you, Soldier, Marine, Sailor, Airman. - a fat old retired Army guy |

Another, personal way you can support an individual involved in the conflict. You can adopt a member of the Armed Forces and commit to pray for them.
Pray for the Troops |

Since when do we need websites to pray for troops? wouldn't it be better to ask the lord that his will will be done? Do we think we know it better?

I think that this is the very least we can do, to show support and make this difficult time easier for our men and women in Iraq (and elsewhere overseas).
Last week my mom came home with the address for her co-worker's son who is currently overseas. He is in the Navy, and right now his mother has no idea if he is in Iraq, or elsewhere. My mom gave me the address because she knew I could reach a lot of people through this board. So if you would like to send a card or letter to him, please PM or email me at lemonangel92@hotmail.com and I will give you his address. ![]() This is my way of asking you to write one person I know, but maybe this will inspire you to seek out ways to write to other soliders. Let them know we are there, appreciating all that they are fighting for. Thanks in advance, guys. ![]() |

Great Idea!!!
One of my supervisors is currently over there, and he sent the names of a number of soliders that have no one back home to write to. They posted the list at work and I sent some letters out yesterday. Even the local 3rd grade class is sending them all letters ![]()

The site gives you the name of an individual member of the armed forces - you can pray for someone by name.
The joy of specific prayer is that you can see specific answers - even if you do not know the individual. |
