On April 2, John McCain did his staged photo-op walk-through a Baghdad market, in a flak jacket and accompanied by 100 troops, 2 Apaches and 3 Blackhawks, to be able to say "this market is safe."

In a story today in the London Times, they report on this tragedy:

"Shia market workers were ambushed, bound and shot dead north of the capital. The victims came from the Baghdad market visited the previous day by John McCain, the US presidential candidate, who said that an American security plan in the capital was starting to show signs of progress."

It's almost certain that this market was targeted because of McCain's visit. Which would mean his photo opportunity meant that 21 innocent workers were kidnapped, tied hand and foot and shot in the head.

Please help stop this misguided war. Send a message to George Bush and tell him to withdraw his threatened veto of the Senate funding bill, which would increase funding and protection for U.S. troops, and require the White House to begin a phased withdrawal by a 2008 deadline. Polls show that the American people overwhelmingly support such an approach.

Hillary Clinton is collecting signatures, to pressure George Bush to follow the will of the American people. Please take a moment to support this petition. Thanks a lot.

That headline is so biased and misleading that it's not even funny. But seeing the bone-headed link you have on your signature, it all becomes clear.

You need much fantasy to say there is no connection between McCain's visit and this killing.

Only an absolute idiot wouldn't see that lots of people were going to die because of that photo op visit. And those fucking politicians did it anyway, knowing that because of their desire to look strong and "presidential" people would be slaughtered. What fucking bastards.

All you have to do is read what some of the Iraqi people said about his visit-the anger and resentment is clear

but are they listing security as their #1 concern?

Saddam Hussein had to be removed.

I wish the politicians would stop these photo-ops. You're right, U2dem, it's not fair that Nancy Pelosi is getting all of the bad press.

^ Especially when Iran released the 15 captive British servicemen today, and Syria reported that it had helped broker the deal. Hmmm.... Nancy Pelosi was in Syria, too...

:hmm:

I think Pelosi is getting criticism mainly from the neocons, so I guess that's a good thing. It's been a long time since this country has had real diplomacy, and it's refreshing to see it again.
