fellow comrades,

i thought this might be a good way for some of us lefties to get to know each other a little better (and to escape those damn "ask ..." threads).

here's how we play:

1) take the political compass test

2) post your results

3) indicate your preferred label (american democrat, liberal, democratic socialist, etc.)

4) talk amongst yourselves

please, allow me to go first-

Economic Left/Right: -8.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.69

i consider myself a libertarian socialist or...*gasp*
communist, if you you've learned to overlook the stereotypical connotations of the word.

next...

Forgot to do the numbers. I'm -4 something on bost economic/left/Right and Social Libertarian/Authoritarian, which apparently puts me right smack in the middle of Gandhi and the Dalai Lama:huh: Who would have guessed?

Don't know exactly what I would call myself. Socialist with libertarian learnings, I guess. 'Cepting I'm too much of a loner. Labels are too complicated. Sigh.

yes, i agree that labels sometimes aren't the best. but i figured for the purposes of this thread a little labeling was in order. :)

I'm a human who hates assholes so I guess I'm a democrat.

i know some democrats who are pretty big assholes. perhaps you might not want to be so general. take the damn quiz!

Right in the same general area as Ghandi, the Dalai Lama, and Nelson Mandela - in good company. Exact opposite location of Bush. That's completely 100% accurate.

I call myself a heart-bleeding, tree-hugging, ultra-liberal.

Milton Friedman is the only one I'm even close to. :uhoh: I really don't know how I would label or describe myself here to be honest. I mean, I know where I stand on the issues that got me those results, but not what label that would give me.

I usually describe myself as bleeding heart lib (and my family calls me a "tree-hugger" ) but I guess not.

Just above Dalai Lama.

I would consider myself liberal, if I was to label myself.

i would say you're beyond a liberal. it's nice to see someone else interested in marx here...but...

a taoist-christian-marxist.......wtf?

yeah, well i'm not a strict materialist obviously....but i believe that the problems in society are a result of imbalance (taoism) between the classes (marxism). And, I believe in social freedom (taoism) along with pacifism (christ).

So can I stay in the thread?

Seriously, socially I consider myself about as far left as you can get and was kinda surprised by the results of this.

Also I noticed they have an international political compass chart on the site which I find interesting. No one at all in my quad though.

well see it is the y axis that measures your social scale in terms of how much government interference you'd like to see over society. and on this axis you scored where you should expect.

it is the x axis where you fall a little short. conservative economics? :shame:

Pretty close to the bottom left hand corner. :) The last time I took this test I think I was even slightly more lower left hand corner than this time...I wonder what I answered differently?
