Whoa, that's nasty-50 years ago you'd be hanging from a tree (he said something like that)- unbelievable

KTLA

Actor comedian Michael Richards is in the hot seat this morning, over a reported tirade at the Laugh Factory.

The star, who is best known as Kramer from 'Seinfeld' is accused of saying the n-word to a disruptive audience Friday night in Hollywood.

Witnesses say audience members were angry and told Richards he was not funny.

They say that's when he went on a verbal rampage and began using racist language.

Richards, who was performing the next day, refused to speak about the incident on camera.

He told CNN, off-camera, he felt sorry for what happened and that he made amends.

According to celebrity news Web site TMZ.com, Michael Richards went off on two black audience members who were heckling the comedian during a show at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood.

In a video of the incident featured on the Web site, Richards purportedly screamed "Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a f---ing fork up your a--."

On the videotape, some audience members are gasping in disbelief.

Directing his anger at one of the men, Richards said, "Throw his a-- out," and said, "He's a n-----!" five times.

Near the end of the tirade, Richards said, "They're going to arrest me for calling a black man a n-----."

In response to the tirade, one of men said, "That''s un-f---ing called for -- ain't necessary," TMZ said.

After the three-minute tirade concluded, several audience members hit the exits, the Web site said.

First Mel, now him. You have to wonder what goes on in these guys' minds, and what brings it out (drugs or booze) Very disgusting!

Can't see the video, but wow...repeatedly targeting people in the audience. Not the best way to avoid the Seinfeld curse.

"The jerk store called. They ran out of Michael Richards.

Just hours after TMZ exposed "Kramer's" vile and racially-charged diatribe at a Hollywood comedy club, the actor's former "Seinfeld" co-stars are weighing in.

In a statement released by Jerry Seinfeld, the comedian said, "I am sick over this. I'm sure Michael is also sick over this horrible, horrible mistake. It is so extremely offensive. I feel terrible for all the people who have been hurt."

Is is really just a "mistake"? Didn't his true feelings come out, just like Mel? Drugs or booze or ego trip or whatever? It sure is eye opening to read the comments on tmz, I think I just lost some years off my life...

I'm not sure about the LF but at the Improv, I've seen people get escorted out. Someone on the staff should have been on the ball with the guy heckling him...or MR just should have plain stopped and requested he be removed.

Bummer....

Hecklers are a part of life in comedy. As a professional comedian, he should be able to deal with a heckler with a little self-control, at least.

:tsk:

Was he being heckled though? I know he said the guy was talking through the show. I didn't realize he was talking at him through the show.

You're right though Dave, heckling is almost expected, isn't it? I've seen them handled much better than that. Perhaps he has lost his touch.

Its a shame too, I was always a big fan of Stanley the janitor.

Regarding this:

Comedian George Lopez told Los Angeles television station KTLA that he thought Richards' lack of stand-up experience may have been a factor.

“The question is you have an actor who is trying to be a comedian who doesn't know what to do when an audience is disruptive,” Lopez said. “He's an actor whose show has been off the air, he shouldn't ever be on a stand-up gig."

After watching it again, I would love to know how long he was being heckeled by the two on the balcony. My wife felt that he was not serious when he started thinking he was going to make a joke, and it went from bad, to worse when he did not stop.

I can almost see it, but, I really wonder how long he was trying to handle the situation.

I tend to agree with your wife. At first he seems to be trying "to be funny" - however misguided - you can even hear many in the audience laughing. Then he simply lost control of his emotions. And the more he lost control - the harder he tried to keep it going - a horrible cycle. I'm sure he knew at some point he had crossed the line.

I think it is more sad than anything else. Kramer was always my least favorite of the Seinfield characters (well, of the main four) - but I still loved the character - and by extension you sort of love the actor. Now, his career is probably over. (unless, God Forbid, he uses this as marketing)

Exactly. People who don't believe that crap don't say it, no matter what the situation.

I sort of agree. However, sometimes during a rage we exaggerate a feeling. Sometimes when I argue with my wife I will exaggerate something that ticks me off. Did I actually feel this way? Maybe a little. Did I feel this way in the manner I argued it? No way - I exaggerated the point because I was filled with anger and hurt during the argument.
