I agree, childkillers should be harshly dealt with by the law.

It boggles my mind, though, that people defend things like this.

You know we can go on and on about this forever, and everyone is going to have their own opinions which is fine.

But, when someone like Jessicas killer or even Megans killer who Megans Law was named after moves into your neigbhorhood maybe people would feel differently.

The molesters in the above cases were guilty molesters first...then they turned into killers.

Yes, and the operative word is murderer. The 39 sex offenders in your area are sex offenders, not murderers.
Not yet anyway.

Goodnight all,

The debate here wasn't about the jail time for sex offenders. That is an issue, of course, but it doesn't pertain to the death penalty discussion we had. We can discuss it separately, but you were referring to posts about a different topic.

Our duty as a society is respect the rule of law, not be gleeful about an execution and send him to his Maker and let God decide what he is going to do with him.

that doesn't make any sense at all.

vengence can and is exacted on humans by humans.

we're dealing with secular laws in a secular justice system. let's keep it secular, please.

it's amazing that justifications for the death penalty are held on religious grounds -- what if the executed is an atheist? you're so cavalier about sending him to "god" for quicker judgement, it's kind of sick, honestly.

You can't send people to life because they might become a killer!!!

If that was the case we'd all be in jail.

very well said.

The man's been to hell and back, I admire he's still able to maintain.

But part of that speech made me cringe, you could tell someone pulled him aside and put their agenda in his mouth, and that just made me sick... the whole cutting back 4% thing just discusted me, there's a time and a place...

They served time but, it wasn't life.

a sex offender is a very, very wide definition, covering everything from rapists to someone who might have been convicted for indecent exposure. either way, they've committed a crime. and if someone commits a crime, and then does the time, are they not entitled to then get on with their lives? why is a sex offense any better or worse than robbing a 7-11?

Well I would admit that some sex crimes are worse than robbery, like you said there's a wide definition, but to equate it with murder is ridiculous.

I want someone who's pro-DP to counter-argue this. I really do.
