thought this was interesting:
__________________[q]There’s no mystery to why the rich visit escorts. But the secondary reasons are surprising. According to a survey by Russ Alan Prince, president of Connecticut-based wealth-research firm Prince & Associates, in his book “The Sky’s The Limit,” a sizable percentage of the super wealthy use escorts. He surveyed 661 people who owned private jets. It found that 34% of males and 20% of females had paid for sex. The most popular reason was “unique experiences” (71%), followed by “higher quality experiences” (57%). Conventional wisdom says that the rich visit escorts to avoid messy break-ups or extra demands for cash. But the study shows otherwise: “No strings attached,” ranked last as a reason. “With the wealthy,” Mr. Prince says “it’s all about power and control and new experiences.” http://blogs.wsj.com/wealth/2008/03/...st-profession/ [/q] |

Money can't buy happiness.
Sex doesn't validate one's intrinsic value. And it's sad the wisdom of world teaches this. dbs |

Is having sex your meaning of happiness?
In answer to you question -no. It's only a perception. dbs |

we're not talking about me. please refrain from making this about me or my relationship, which is none of your business. i'm asking a question. i'm trying to understand what drives someone like Spitzer -- or Clinton, or Craig -- to do something so monumentally stupid when they have so much to lose. anyway, i'm not talking about happiness. i'm talking about sex. it seems to me, as referenced in the article snippet i posted above, that sex in and of itself is the reason why wealthy men (and sometimes women) hire prostitutes. because sexual athletes with perfect bodies can be hired to perform a function. the goal is not happiness, the goal is an "experience" -- like a safari, or whitewater rafting in Costa Rica. |

I think our Creator put sex on Earth for happiness; not a sporting event.

two absolutes ~ life and death
I know when I feel most alive I know what people did after 911 to fight the feeling of death hate sexuality = hate yourself hate yourself = hate others you must have sinners ~ to hate sin sin is for haters ~ sin is a lie reject the concept of sin and hate will fade away |

ah, now this is some good insight. doesn't it seem, to some, that sex is a sporting event? that it can be a display of pleasurable athleticism? perhaps even a form of therapy? is this bad? setting aside your religious beliefs and all. imho: it's bad when it results in the betrayal of a partner, and that seems to me to be the real issue here. sex outside of marriage, sex with a prostitute -- all this is only a negative, or is *necessarily* a negative, when someone is being betrayed. as it seems Mrs. Spitzer most assuredly was. and that, to me, says that often times these extracurricular sexual activities aren't the result of some sort of dysfunction in a marriage, or that one partner is failing the other. we cannot be all things to our partners. and for some, like men with lots of money who are used to getting what they want when they want and how they want, sex is another commodity. how one justifies the betrayal of one's partner in one's mind is one thing; but the acquisition of "bigger, faster, stronger" sexual experiences doesn't strike me as some sort of deviancy or dysfunction. i guess i don't really have an opinion here. i'm just trying to understand what might be going on. |

I think our Creator put sex on earth for two people who love eachother to express that love in the highest act, rite or ritual. Sex also includes the power of procreation which is another topic but a needed reason for sex. dbs |

sex *can be* a commodity. certainly. your religious beliefs are lovely, but do they really apply here? and does sex need to always be procreative? |

Well at least when Spitzer resigned, he resigned.
Not like Larry Craig-"I intend to resign" and then doesn't. Spitzer is on his way on the correct path; Larry is not. dbs |

While we're discussing why would a man (or a woman) throw everything away for sex, how about what would drive a woman or a man to sell their bodies by choice? Some people may say for money, since NYC is an expensive place to live in. But still. To me it seems degrading to me to sell yourself and treat yourself like a piece of meat. Because it no way are the clients seeing you as a person. But I guess its the same as a one-night stand, only money is involved. I don't know, I'm just rambling now. But seriously, why do you think someone would sell themselves? |

People have suggested that there is no exploitation with high priced call girls who participate in this as a mode of business. This is somebody who is only 22 and has been doing this for years - it is sad, it is shameful and personally heartbreaking to me as a woman to see another woman that young end up on this path. No, I don't believe a 17 year old girl running from a broken home CHOSE prostitution as a career goal.
So when we talk about paying for sex and what is wrong with it - well a hell of a whole lot, and 99% of the time you can bet there is a sad story of a woman involved. I'm not puritan in the slightest, but I find these high powered me (and women?) who pay for sex to be morally repugnant, and I wonder each time about what the little girls who became prostitutes once envisioned doing with their lives. I don't think it was this.... |
